Lift in checklist

We will be having our boat shipped in April to our marina. When the boat is lifted in, what procedures does everyone follow for lift-in and for the first engine startup to motor to our slip? Please keep in mind I have not had any experience on the 350 as of yet, so pretend that I don't know anything

I recommend that you burp the PSS before your start the engine. Ask your dealer if that needs to be done. The later models might not need a PSS burping.

In addition to burping the PSS, make sure you open the seacock for the engine cooling system. If you are in Ontario, you might want to top off your batteries and let the glow plugs warm things up for 20 seconds or so before you start the engine.

Since this is my first time with a PSS system, to burb do I just pull off the little hose that runs to the PSS seal until water comes out?

With regards to the glow plug, is it like a car where you turn the key to engage the glow plug or is there a separate switch? I don't remember what the console looked like so it may be obvious but just in case I am asking anyway.

According to the manufacturer's website, the "hi-speed" (i.e. Water Injected) PSS does not need to be burped. All C350's after about #204 or so are equipped from the factory with the water injected / hi-speed shaft seal. All prior boats have been provided with a retrofit kit to install the water injection feature.

and here is the direct quote of their instructions for "burping" the seal - and their notation that burping is not required on the "hi-speed" version:

11-b. Standard speed seals
When a boat with a watertight (P.S.S.) seal goes back in the water, there will be an air pocket trapped in the shaft log (stern tube). This air pocket must be vented so water can reach the face of the seal to help cool and lubricate it. To vent the air pocket, simply compress the bellow (push the carbon away from the stainless steel rotor with your hand) so that water fills the shaft log (stern tube). A small amount of water will enter the boat at this time and will stop as soon as you release the bellow, allowing the two faces to come back in contact.

This procedure should be done every time the boat goes back in the water and is not required with high speed seals.
