Shower Sump Pump

Post by zman18 »

Has anyone had trouble with the shower sump pump staying shut off? My pump will pump out the water than shuts off when the float switch gets low enough but than there is a back flow of water back into the area causing the pump to start again. It continues in this cycle until I close the seacock. I can reopen the seacock and the pump will stay off. I checked the pump for any blockages but could not find any. Appreciate any thoughts.

If you look under the sink in the head you will find an vented loop for the shower sump discharge on the bulkhead of the shower. The cap on top of the loop holds a rubber check valve which has stuck closed on my boat and given me the same results. Be sure to observe the direction the rubber check valve comes out and put it back in the same way.
I have cleaned it and applied a small amount of silicone spray before putting back together. That seems to fix the problem. It is now part of my annual commissioning.
