cutlass bearing play

Does anyone know how much play is acceptable in the cutlass bearing. And what is the proceedure for replacing the cutlass bearing on the 350 Mk I that has the fiberglass stern tube in the skeg? We have a little bit of wiggle that started just at the very end of last season...we think this was due to an unevenly warn zinc. :(

We've heard about dropping the rudder or moving the engine. Does anyone have any suggestions or photos? We also heard there were several variations of how the cutlass bearing was installed on the 350.

Thanks,

See previous posts on the subject. It depends on if you have a bronze or nylon cutlass bearing. The nylon is like plastic and is black.

I haven't been able to find previous posts which discuss how much play is acceptable.

Hull #169, so I assume it's the original nylon style.

Can someone be more specific and direct me to the "previous discussion"?

Thanks!

I did a cutlass bearing replacement on my mk1
Here's a link to my post on how I did it. No dropping of rudder or pulling of tranny coupling required, but I did have to remove the prop and raise the engine.

Hope it helps
