Steering issue

When steering my Catalina 350, I experience a "click" when turning hard to port. It just a slight click, as if it's catching on something, but the wheel continues to turn. This happens only sometimes and it can happen under sail or power. We've checked the cable and it seems fine, with no obstructions. The cable could probably be tightened a little, but it doesn't seem to be causing the problem. Any ideas on what else to check? This is a 2002 Catalina. The shaft was replaced in the spring, which required the rudder to come off. Wonder if that is a contributor.
