Boom vang
Does the "stock" vang have a spring inside or is it just a worm gear that extends or shortens the length by just turning the outer tube?? What role does the clevis pin that runs thru the tube about midway its length play??? Has anyone replaced this vang with a Forespar Yacht Rod vang; if so was it advantageous? Thanx, Jim #368 Mid-Chesapeake Bay

Ridged Boom Vang
On my boat hull number #303 with a furling main the rigid boom vang is a giant turnbuckle. There is a philips screw and a set screw at each end of the vang. The screw holds the black plastic in place and the set screw stops the rotation. So to adjust the height of the boom vang, loosen the two set screws and rotate the center to lengthen or shorten the boom vang. I have know idea what the clevis pin in the middle is for.
