Re: where is the water heater bleed valve

Post by nybor »

Not ready to give up just yet (my latest issue is with a juvenile Osprey that chewed off one of my wind speed indicator cups). But, fortunately they sell a kit so waiting to go up to replace them.

BUT, after I replaced the fresh water pump I cannot get the air out of the system. The last time I simply opened the bleed valve atop the thermostat and it spit and spit until the air was expelled. I wonder if this time since I removed the pump and replaced it, the entrained air went down to the water heater and remains there.

I think I know where it is - there is a spring loaded valve somewhere on the water tank? If someone has a photo of the culprit or it is on Google Maps, please let me know.

thanks

ps. Since I do Vessel Inspections (as a CG Aux member), I like telling the owners, "Do you know how to become a millionaire owning a vessel? Start out a multi-millionaire" This is my bleak future....

Yes with engine running at idle, open the valve on the water heater and only close it when a steady stream of coolant comes out. It is the high point in the system and where you need to bleed out the air.

Have an old towel/rag to catch the sputtering coolant.
