Exhaust Hose

Post by ElizabethG »

Hi All,

I discovered this w/e, that the exhaust hose, between the riser and the muffler, has a small water leak. BTW, this is a 2004 CAT350 with a M35B.

The Universal / Westerbeke parts manual does not list this hose. The hose is stamped with "Water Systems Marine Wet Exhaust SAE J2006 Lawrence Smooth Flex Plus EPDC 2" I.D." Looks like it's about a 29" run, but this stuff is normally sold by the foot, so 3' is needed.

If anyone has replaced this hose, what did you use and where did you find it?

Thanks,

Bill

Any marine store will have "purpose speced" wet exhaust hose.

Here is one: https://www.westmarine.com/buy/vetus--s ... ecordNum=3

If original was wire reinforced, replace with the same.

I replaced all of my exhaust hose earlier this year. You might want to look beyond the short section of hose and check the long section of hose behind the muffler as in my case it was developing cracks. I ordered a 12.5 foot section of 2" Trident 252 series corrugated marine wet exhaust hose from Go2marine.com. If I recall correctly they offer it in 1 foot increments or in a 12.5 foot section which is the route I took. Cost was about $150 for the hose. I also replaced all the hose clamps to be conservative. FyI - this hose has very robust internal spiral wire which I needed bolt cutters to cut, and the 12.5' section was enough to replace all the hose in the boat. I also have the M35B engine.

Hi Bill,

You are right, I probably need to replace the rest of the exhaust hose.

Another item for the to-do list that never seems to go away...

Thanks,
