Short Term Slip in Miami/Ft Lauderdale Area

Post by wolfe10 »

We are currently in Macro Island. Headed out in the morning to Everglades, then Keys, then north to jump off to West End, Grand Bahamas.

Expect to arrive Miami area around Thursday 1/10.

Currently see no good crossing window out through the 14th (as far out as my forecast goes).

So looking for slip to await reasonable crossing weather.

Will be out of cell phone and internet next couple of days (ya, no towers in the Everglades!), but will check back in when get to Matacumbe or Key Largo.

Thanks.

As you probably know, slips are hard to come by in that area particularly this time of year. I’d suggest anchoring in No Name Harbor which is where a lot of boaters go before jumping over. It is very protected and there is a good Cuban restaurant!

Thanks, Jim.

Ya, on our last trip to the Bahamas, we anchored off Key Biscayne and left from Cape Florida.

But, prefer (Dianne particularly) to have a "land fix" right before crossing for last minute grocery shopping, laundry, etc.
