Front Engine Mounts economical source for Universal M35B

Post by JohnForr »

Do any of you know of a place to source Front Engine Mounts that are less than $265 each?...details below.
FORR Fun is hull number 007 and commissioned in 2003.
Has anyone replaced their front engine brackets?
I believe my front engine mounts are worn out. I am getting some vibration and I keep breaking brackets on the heat exchanger. Sea Kamp heat exchanger engineer also thinks my brackets are breaking because of excess vibration. I had 2 mechanics look at it and they thought same thing.
I called a parts dealer in Fort Myers, Fl and they want $265 each for a total of $530 and install of another $250 to include alignment. I had rear engine brackets changed 2 years ago up on the Sassafras River on the Chesapeake. At that time Sailing Associates there said the front ones did not have long.
Do any of you know of a place to source these that are a lot less cost?????
Thanks. You all have been very helpful.

Just a note, the heat exchanger brackets breaking are a common problem to these engines. Both of mine broke (at separate times), and I had them welded. The problem has never reoccurred since the repair.

Has anyone had to replace their front engine mounts (isolator). The local Westerbeke dealer says they don't make them anymore.

VERY unlikely Westerbeke had anything to do with making them.

There are only a couple of large metal to rubber bonders in the world.

Lord Corp in Ohio is one.

Metalstik is another. Just replace the engine mounts on my diesel pusher motorhome, and Metalstik was the manufacturer.

I would look for spec sheets with dimensions and weight ratings.

Here is one for the ones on our motorhome: http://www.ratus.com.ua/data/files/trel ... at_eng.pdf

John I've read reports on the C34 and C36 web sites of people using Vetus K100 mounts on their Universal M35. I think you can find then for $75 - $85 each.

Brett and Ken,
Thank you. I am looking at the Vetus mounts to see if they match. I believe they do. I cannot see anything wrong with the current mounts, but I don't have X-ray vision. I get a little vibration at idle speed RPMs. As I boost RPMs to above 1000 it smooths out.
FYI Only
And Thanks

John,

Sounds perfectly normal.

To check the mounts, use a pry bar and see if the rubber is still firmly attached to both top and bottom pieces of metal and check visually that the rubber is not deformed.

Also, a good idea a couple of times a year to re-torque the mount to stringer bolts. They DO loosen.
