Rust on stainless

Post by Cmp1110 »

We recently inspected a 05 350 that had been in Florida for the last two seasons and I noticed a fair amount of corrosion on some of the standing rigging and I would like a consensus opinion on how serious this is I will attach a photo of the average condition.

My two bits worth....surface rust is no issue, easily cleaned off with something like Spotless Stainless and will look like new. Internal corrosion within swage or wire strands you can't see, and can't judge. Maybe get a qualified rigger to look at, and would help to know age of your rigging. You are presumably going to get a survey anyway so ask for a specific opinion on status of the rigging. If it is an 05 with original rig it is getting closer to replacement age anyway, depending on where you are planning on sailing.
