Newport 1600 $6 Joker Valve now sells for $185.00

Post by tranquilcat42 »

Wow-what a deal! Chicago - style strategies at the company that purchased Wilcox Crittenden!

After snowing here last week, its warm enough to prepare the boat for launch and, similar to many owners, the Joker Valve needs replacement. A $6.85 part. Company that bought Wilcox no longer sells parts - only sells a kit for $185 without tax and shipping. My retirement portfolio has not increased in value like the WC Joker Valve!

They are checking to see if the Joker Valve is included in the kit. If not part of the kit? Will they try to sell me a whole new head?

Any ideas where I can get a part, the part I need rather than a whole kit with other things I've not needed in the 7 years I've owned the boat (of her 10 years here on earth!)

Thanks
Teri

Hi Teri,

Try
http://www.bargainboatparts.com/searchc ... erm=wilcox
they claim that they sell the Joker valve for $8.11. It is the same Wilcox Crittenden part number as in the Newport maintenance kit!!

Hope this works, I had to pay $185 plus freigth to Australia last time I needed to buy one.

Russ

Thanks so much!!! They did not have it, but referred me to 2 firms that might. One of those does not, but will see about the other.

The WC/Thetford/whatever the other name is company did not know if the joker valve would be included in the $185 kit and are checking on it. Did you get your kit from the same company that bought WC?? Sounds like you had high freight charges!

Thank you again for your help! Is your newport 1600 still working?

Am curious if anyone has replaced it with a manufacturer/model that is a combination of electric and flush....???if that is possible.

It is the same joker valve as the Headmate series and that kit is about 70.00.

Hi Teri,

Once I put the full Thetford kit including a joker valve in (after 10 years) and replaced all the hoses (which was the most difficult and "nastiest" job) the Newport head looks and runs like new. Only downside is the noise. I have a friend who has just fitted Raritans with electronic controls and multiflush options to his catamaran, it is whisper quiet and very flash, but no idea how it might be fitted to a 350 though.

The freight cost was to get it to Australia, no way was the kit obtainable here.

Thanks Lulu and Avalon! I have placed an order for the kit - seems to be the only way to get the valve. Am guessing the fun begins once the kit arrives and the fix begins!

Happy Sails To You!
