Man Overboard Pole

Post by colmitch »

We are planning a trip to Newport, RI and vacinity in June from the Chesapeake Bay. One of the crew members has a man overboard pole that he wishes to bring. On his boat it is mounted on the single back stay. With our split backstay I'm wondering were and how best to mount it. Anyone have expereince with this?

We mounted the "sleeve" for ours on the starboard backstay and the yellow MOB pole went up from the sleeve through the bimini opening at the stay (you know....the place where water always leaks onto the helmsman.) The idea was to push it up out of the "sleeve" it rests in and direct it aft so that it "popped" out of the top of the hole for the stay in the bimini. It was completely out of the way there and yet readily available if needed. Luckily, we never had to test the theory on whether we could actually blast it out of the sleeve and over the bimini.

The attached picture only shows the location of the sleeve and pole within the cockpit.

If you locate a better place, we would be interested.
