Sump Pump In Shower

Post by ElizabethG »

Hi All,

I need to replace the sump pump in the shower.

The current pump is made by Rule, square in shape, uses a float switch to activate and I believe the model number is "Rule 20F". That pump is no longer made and is no longer available from commonly used suppliers. It has been replaced with a round unit with a model number of "Rule 20DA".

I live 5.5 hours from my boat, so I want to make sure this "round " pump will fit in the sump area before ordering. Has anyone installed the round Rule 20DA pump?

Has anyone installed a different pump other than a Rule? If so, what did you use?

BTW, my float switch was also bad. West Marine wanted around $55. Ace Hardware has the same type and size switch for $28. It was a direct fit.

Thanks,

Bill

wow, mine is acting up and I want to replace mine as well. Some company said they may get some in, but I doubt it. I am afraid that the round one is too tall. I will measure my current square one and compare it to a replacement round one.

update!.. I checked Amazon and they have a small one that is 4.05" high, Just ordered it and will see if it fits. Also, it has a built in float switch. They also have another one without the float switch and it is 4.00" high. So, if it fits, I might get the non-float version to attach to my current paddle switch ($24 versus $27 with switch)

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response!

Can you post the link for the one you ordered off Amazon, or list the make and model number of the pump?

Also, can you post when you install it as to how it fits and if there were any issues?

Thanks,

If it helps, this is the one that is in my boat and it does a great job. Float switch and pickup are in the shower sump. That blue ring allows for easy removal for cleaning. It is located under the sink in the head.

Hi AlwaysLearning,

I haven't considered that option....Hmmm...

Would love to see a pic of your "plumbing" configuration in the drain / sump area.

Thanks,

Interesting idea about placing the pump below the head sink!

I checked the Amazon automatic pump that came in and it looks like it will fit (98% sure - without installing it).

However, it says in the instructions it must be installed above the water level... is our sump location above? Not sure why and want to see if the non-automatic says the same thing. (probably).. here is the Amazon info

SEAFLO 06 Series Automatic Submersible Bilge Pump - 1100 GPH, 12V, 1-1/8"" Outlet, 4-Year Warranty! Built-In Float Switch, Snap-Off Strainer, Compact for Marine Boat Yacht, CE & Rohs Certified.

Will update when I see the other one..(can't have enough bilge pumps!)

Dave,

You listed the outlet as 1 1/8".

I'm pretty sure mine is 3/4".

They do, however, list both size pumps.

I'm not close to my boat, but I think we should be OK or the water level.

??? It is NOT 1/1/8" It looks like 3/4" I have it on the boat but let me check. I placed it next to the hose and it looked fine.

3/4" is 19.05 mm. I wonder if they meant to say 1.9 cm"?

You are correct! I have a 1 1/8" to 3/4" hose coupling, but if they have the 3/4" fantastic.

thanks for checking this.

I am trying to solve an electrical problem at the moment, so I am guessing that it will fit vertically. (eyeball measurement). If you wait, I will get down and actually measure the square one's height.
