sailing from Florida to Oregon

Post by nybor »

Hi. Has anyone done this or vice versa? What about the Canal transit? I am "considering" this trip but would like to hear from people that have done it.

thanks

Yes, Florida to and through the canal. That's the easy part. Going north is the part I wouldn't really want to do from Panama. It might be easier to sail to Hawaii then to Oregon.

Jimmy Cornell's "world cruising routes" outlines the challenge of the Panama to Oregon route. Going West to Hawaii and then on to Alaska and back down the coast is the easier sail but of course takes much longer.

Time to go and what you can expect to encounter in weather etc. are all included.

Keep us all posted if you go.

thanks for all the above tips. Maybe I should go eastward thru the Suez canal? I could fly the Jolly Roger flag to ward off pirates, ie a brother in arms!
