Installing City Water Hookup

Post by standib »

Has anyone installed a city water hook up in the anchor locker? If so, are there there instructions anywhere?
Thanks

Bob, I've not done a city water hookup but can offer one piece of advice. Once you get it set up, make sure you turn it off at the dock before leaving the boat. One failed fitting or hose = one sunk boat ! No match for a bilge pump.

To add to Ken's caution, the overflow from the tank itself will not keep up with a hose and you could easily explode the tank. Hydraulic pressure can do some amazing things. Personally, I would not consider doing it.

If you are a liveaboard and want to stay permanently connected, I would suggest doing it just like in a motorhome, with a pressure reducer at the shore-side faucet, then plumb in to the pressure side of the on-board water pump. Turn off water at the faucet when not onboard to prevent a bad hose or connection from flooding the boat.
