raw water pump rotation

Post by elk »

I searched with no success, looking for the direction of rotation for the impeller of the raw water/sea water pump. Is it clockwise or anticlockwise as you look at it from the front of the engine looking aft? Just trying to make sure I have the new impeller blades in the housing with the correct directional set. Yes, I pulled the old impeller out before checking and I'm 100 miles away from the boat.

Thanks,

It is clockwise when looking at the engine. Same as the rotation of the crank shaft pulley and thus the belt.
Think of it this way, the impeller blades turn across the water inlet (right) and drag the water down and around the housing (clockwise) then up and out the outlet (left) to send it to the heat exchanger. Down and around clockwise.

Awesome! Just what I needed. I'm going to assume the Oberdorfer I'm installing is the same.

Thanks for your help>
