Q about the non-opening "windows" , replacement and process

Post by AynB »

Good day all. Two questions:
1) Has anyone had to pull one of the larger fixed windows ( smoked lexan ) on their 350?
2) If so,
a) how was the original installed? Butyl Tape or Butyl goo ?
b) what did you use to re-install the window ? Butyl tape or Butyl rubber goo ?

Thanks in advance - have had the starboard leak off and on, and attempted various fixes, but need to yank it out and do it right.

Hi Al,

I've never had to deal with leaks or replacing fixed ports (yet :D ) but I've attached some instructions from Catalina regarding replacing. I don't think they are "model specific". Sorry they're not the best quality.

Thanks Ken! You da Man!

Only thing now that confuses me is the text v.s. the image.
In the image, it shows a 3/8 wide strip of butyl rubber foam tape ( right side of picture ) and that tape is nowhere else described.
Left side of the image is just what the textual instructions say to do.
Any ideas?

Al, I'm not sure but I think the butyl tape just acts as a spacer to maintain a uniform thickness and avoid all the 795 from squeeezing out. It looks like it is placed every 6". Here's a link to the C34 web site http://www.c34.org/wiki/index.php?title ... ght_Repair regarding the repair which might shed a bit more light on the subject. I agree that the diagram is a bit confusing.
