Maxwell Windlass vm800 repair, parts

Post by Barbara »

We inadvertently allowed too much time to pass before servicing the windlass. The shaft/gearbox appears to be seized. The motor may or may not be functioning as well. It's been hard getting information from the industry, as many are closed up due to COVID-19. One service center told us that the VM800 gear box replacement is no longer available. Does anyone know if there is a newer version that still works with the windlass parts? Where can we find parts -whether new, used, or rebuilt? Thank you!!

Hello Barbara. You indicated the Maxwell Windlas vm800... did you mean the VW 800 Electric? I think that is the one that came standard on boat. At least that is what is installed on our hull 212. I have expereinced the same issue as others with some water leaking onto the access panel and then down into the forward peak berth shelf in inerior bow area below the access panel. I am headed to the boat tomorrow to let a dehumidifier run to get rid of any interior moisture and replace seal (part 53 on page 33 of my maxwell manual Part # SP708) on Tuesday. You can order individual seal (SP708) from Defender:

https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?id=1040839
$4.99

or the entire seal kit from defender:
https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?id=2555653
$30.99

Good luck.
