Newport model 1600 broken hinge on lid replace/repair?

Post by tranquil »

After gluing the toilet onto a new pad and back down for use, the first guest ended up with a broken hinge on the lid - the little plastic round part that is molded to the square part that flips open so you can screw the lid to the tank - broke.

Has anyone replaced or repaired just the lid?

Interim fix for 2 months would be great as in Chicago we pull out to store Oct 1st. Then if I have to buy a new toilet I can study the blog and do research to determine the best replacement vendor/model

Thanks!

Teri,
I found a complete lid replacement a few years ago on e-bay. As I remember about $15. The Hinge kit I also found at a plumbing supply shop but opted for a complete lid replacement for a few dollars more.

Good hunting.

You are so kind! Thank you very much!!!

I thought I could replace just the hinge so I did not measure the seat. With your help, I can now order the seat and hopefully have it so we can enjoy the few remaining weeks of sailing season here in Chicago....our Air & H20 Show is in a week so a working head is needed.

Thank you again!

I've had this happen a few times, and so have friends on their boats. Sitting on the seat in rough seas can damage these hinges. One time I just bought a cheap seat from Walmart, took off the hinges and replaced mine with these. Same exact fit, same screw holes and all. Easy and cheap.
Better yet, go to my website and look up tip called "A better seat" This will prevent the hinge from breaking. Since installing the shims, I've never broken a seat hinge. It works. All marine toilet seat suppliers should have these as a standard design.
