inverter issue

Post by BillBerner »

Hello all -
I have a small 400w modified sine wave inverter on the boat, wired through a 3 position (Off, A, B) rotary selector switch to power the 120v outlets on the boat.
The switch position determines whether power goes to the outlets from the 120v shore power or the inverter. The switch operates on both hot and neutral. However, whenever I try to use it it inverter returns an error message that there is voltage on the 120v neutral side and shuts down. It works fine when I take it out of the AB system an plug a small appliance directly into it. I haven't been able to find any voltage when measuring from neutral to ground.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
