Bulb - LPG Solenoid

Post by ChuteUp »

Two questions:
1) Removal of blown out Bulb - looks like the Bulb is attached to the electrical panel with hard wax or plastic
Anyone remove one? Hints for easy damage free removal?

2) Bulb - looks like it may not be separate from the wiring. Is that the case? Part Source(s)......?

Thanks in advance

The light is actually a 12V LED. You should be able to pick one up at any electronics store. Use a little hot melt glue to keep it in position in the panel. They are pretty inexpensive. Look at the orientation of the existing one as you have to replace the new one the same way. ie. one side is positive and the other negative. It will only work one way. There should be a flat side or some other designation by the leads to the LED.

THANKS so much for the info / description.........was not familiar at all with hot melt glue.

I did see the wiring connections pretty clearly but will take care getting back together.

Thanks again!!!

You might want to make sure you have a current limiting resistor in series with the Led replacement. Most generic replacement LED's do not have one of these installed. If the Led is marked 12volt input then you are good to go. I think a 1000 ohm 1/4 watt resistor (Brown Black Red color bands) should work. Look on ebay or amazon for packages of LEDS and Resistors.

Update:
Before we could apply all the helpful suggestions / hints, a few new developments

1) Power panel switch intermittently won't stay in On position........usually as it's moved in that direction, it won't "click" into place or it feels like it clicks
but slips back........kinda like when a breaker "pops"

2) The Light "reappears" either dimly at times........or full on as if problem never existed

3) The Solenoid switch (looks like original) itself is rusted especially at the wired end.

Has anyone changed out their Solenoid switch? If so, was it an upgrade? did You go with Hi-pressure option?

Ran across these two articles too

Do Catalina 350's have the ability to communicate with one another?

Last night the LPG Solenoid light on hull #59 went dim. The breaker, solenoid and stove are all working. Showing 12v at the breaker and the ground wire is fine.

Reading the posts it seems to be the lamp.

Should have come back & given the resolution of our situation

a) Propane Solenoid Switch (badly rusted but probably was still working ) - Replaced with same ......took some time to track down since Original was repaced wih new model # & a couple of distributors were not helpful plus there are protected Distributor geographical areas which we discovered too.

b) Solenoid Ground Wire - was never used (cut off on Original so hard to even see it existed) - installed one

After doing all that, we had the same Issue(s)............and so turned out attention to the Panel Breaker Switch.

c) Panel Breaker Switch - Replaced - Voila...........Cooking with Gas :) - Red Indicator Light was fine - NO Need to change........NO ISSUES since.

It was certainly time to replace the Solenoid given it's condition & importance.
