Re: Bulkhead Veneer Delamination

I recently had to do another repair. I drilled a 1/8 inch hole in the veneer bubble and used a basting syringe to inject the 2 part epoxy glue. The syringe can be found at Lowes or walmart in the outdoor cooking sections near the grills. Cost a couple of bucks. Make sure the glue does not ooze out t...

Re: 2004 350 Cockpit enclosure

Check out some of the ideas on my website under the tab entitled canvas ideas. The the website is www.thebookofsail.com Check out the wings and the cockpit shade ideas. Also, to waterproof your canvas try using Scotch Guard outdoor spray. I've had good luck with that at half the cost of the Sunbrell...

Re: Stern Cleats

I certainly would not count on the seat to tow the dinghy. What I did was replace one of the two bolts that secure the quadrant preventer cable with an eye bolt. This is in the center of the stern down low. I think that there is a backing plate already there too. To this I added a quick release shac...

Re: anchor comparison/selection

The claw is a good choice for mud. The Rocna a better choice for most bottoms, including mud. I traded in my Bruce for a Rocana a few years back and I'm glad I did. Best anchor I've ever used.
my second anchor is a fortress. In grass it seems to do best.

Have your exhaust elbow checked if you have never replaced it. At this many hours, you would be do for it and it could definetly be causing the symptom you describe.

Re: Barnacles

Hot Salsa or cayenne pepper will work, if you can keep it on your prop. That's the issue with anything you try. If you can just get a good bond between the metal on the prop and either anti fouling paint, Hot Salsa, grease or whatever you think is best, you will not have barnacles. If you simply add...

Re: Barnacles

See my website www.thebookofsail.com and look under the tab for Sailing Wisdom. I think that's where I put something about anti fouling on your prop. I will gladly send you the instructions for the application. Your boat yard might have these materials available to use so you don't have to purchase ...

Re: De-lamination of veneer on forward bulkhead wall in salo

I tried this and it was pretty successful. I used an extending boat hook to run between the aft bulkhead and the delam area. I used small pieces of wood on both ends of the pole to apply the pressure. Note; It takes to people to execute this. I did not apply warm compresses to the delam teak area bu...

Re: Sheets and quilts

Our "bed spreads" or bed covers are single or twin bed quilts or bed covers. They fit pretty well on both beds. We use queen up front with a custom sown "cut to fit" fitted sheet for the bottom sheet, std queen flat sheet for the top sheet, and std King sheets for the aft cabin. ...

Re: galley hamock

We have a few on TRIUMPH. One is on the starboard side over the shelf over the settee. It's tied to the light fixture, and then a hook we installed over near the edge of the galley. (hidden) I also tie it to the SS rod nearby to keep it from swinging. The second one is in the aft cabin over where th...

Re: cleaning the teak companionway slats

See my post under "Add on and Improvements" for the companionway drop cloth. It's near the bottom of the list.

This will keep your boards looking new after you refinish them. Also, provides a temporary closure to keep rain out, or AC in.

Re: Haul out Advice

I've never heard about bronze shafts on C350's. this is the first time I've heard that, and I really wonder it it's accurate. There has been a lot written in the forum here about changing the cutlass. My own experience with a 2004 model is that the shaft would not clear the rudder. There has been vo...

Re: how much bottom paint?

At one point, hull number 280 or so? Catalina changed from the nylon cutlass bearing to a bronze cutlass. If you have a later hull, you can grab the bronze cutlass and wrestle it out without dropping the rudder or lifting the engine. If you need to, you can cut away an inch or more of the fiberglass...

Re: Replacing the hot water heater

I would consider replacing the 11 gallon heater with a 6 (or Less) gallon water heater. If you ever are out cruising, say sitting in one spot for a few days, it would take a lot less time running the main engine or Honda 2000 to heat up hot water for a shower, or the dishes. 11 gallons is way to muc...

Re: mast padeye for whisker pole

I had the same results when Looking for a pad eye to fit the curve of the mast. I ended up with a small section of track with a moveable pad eye on it. I bought it used at a nautical resale store. It was pretty simple to drill a few holes, tap them, and screw in the bolts. To hold the whisker pole, ...
