Re: Mainsheet Clamcleat

Avalon has the same setup, I imagine is standard on all C350s. As long as I press the mainsheet into the clam cleat I have never had an issue, it is the case that you can't pass through the cleat and then to the winch, it is too low. But the winch is meant to be multipurpose so not meant purely for ...

Re: No water from thru bull

Hi Mike, If you have run the pump dry for any length of time you have probably destroyed the impeller by now, but worth trying to fill the suction line with water and see if it still pumps. The motor turns in different direction depending on whether you lift or depress the pedal. The "out"...

Re: Engine throttle and shift control cables

Haven't tried, but have you considered just trying to lube them? I had an old Renault "when I wore a younger man's clothes" as Billy Joel puts it, and it had throttle cables running to the rear engine that became stiff over time. Just lifted up one end, taped a funnel over the end, put som...

Re: Tracing wiring from alternator to battery

Just a thought, although I am sure others will have smarter ideas. Yes the heavy battery/alternator cables run under the flooring up then up to the battery switches under the electrical panel and then into battery compartment, the size of these should allow you to trace them and I wouldn't expect th...

Re: Wiring for Spill over fan 2006 Model

Hi Geoff, I am guessing you located a computer cooling fan for the replacement, and these often have a speed control feed as well as +ve and -ve. I have replaced a couple of these and I think they came with some info about which lead was which. If you do a web search you will find stuff like this: A...

Re: Rocna Anchror Question /Chain size

And for anyone thinking about chains in bottom of lockers! I recently removed the whole 70 m of chain from my anchor locker and laid it out on the dock, hadn't done it in 10 years and hadn't used more than 30-40 when anchoring so last section had just sat. It was lying in an inch of wet mud even tho...

Re: Thru hull Serviceable?

Personally I wouldn't put a bronze one in. I am not aware of Marelon failures, but know plenty of sailors who were pulling their boats between scheduled lift outs because they found corroded bronze valves that wouldn't let them sleep at night.

Re: I need a new engine!! ugh

Just for info, we removed and inspected and replaced mine at about 1100 hours, it hadn't gone through but had pinholes indicating it wouldn't be a lot longer before it started to leak. If you want to play safe change at least every 1500 hours as Leigh said, if you want to play very safe, replace eac...

Re: Where to sleep

Hi David, If you are on a passage then my view has been that midships berths are the most comfortable and you have quick access to the cockpit if needed. I have a lee cloth (https://www.sailrite.com/How-to-Make-Lee-Cloths-Video#:~:text=A%20lee%20cloth%20is%20a,main%20cabin%20(or%20saloon).&text=...

Re: Stress Cracks on Anchor Locker Hatch

Not sure where your cracks are, I just repaired the front face which had been chipped by the anchor and allowing water ingress so the core was rotting near the front. I removed the rotten core, filled with "flowable" fibreglass putty mix and then faired and painted just the front edge with...

Re: Whale Gusher 10 Repacement

So what does not "quite" line up mean? Did you have to drill out the holes on the pump, or on the hull, or, or? Longer bolts easy enough to deal with.

Thanks for follow up.

Re: Whale Gusher 10 Repacement

Wow, what lousy timing. I found same deal with my Whale Gusher Mk 10 a couple of months ago and paid AUD300+ for a new one, now looks like I could have replaced with Whale Titan which costs about AUD120 and isn't subject to corrosion. Bu......er!

Will be interested to hear if it fits in easily.

Re: C350 design changes over the years? Pick best yr for us?

My 350 is hull 150, 2003. I didn't know about the transom seat access change, but I go in and out of those hatches more than anywhere else on the boat, have platforms built below to hold hoses, buckets, power cables, towels, polishes and cleaners, and the refrig set is under the stb hatch too. Can't...

Re: New Genoa Sail - Add Foam Luff?

Based on my experience, any slight loss of performance fully out is more than compensated by having way better looking (and presumably better performing) sail when partially furled. Mine looked awful pre foam luff, looks great post. Of course balancing that, if you are furling then you already have ...

My experience is “no” weeping is acceptable as it drips down to main crank pulley wheel which corrodes on the face, then chews your belt up.

Re: Engine Coolant Expansion Tank

Hi John,

This is going back a bit, but wondered how you closed off the coolant bleed at the engine block radiator cap? As I read your article you only have the one bleed point from the coolant circuit and that is aft above the hot water heater?
