Re: Dinette Tables
Hi, had the same dilemma, i.e., porage too hot or too cold. So I had a medium size table made out of smoked cast acrylic with fiddles around it to keep things from sliding off. I like it but also thought about the fold down idea as well. Just didn't want to mess up the bulkhead. I can measure it and...

Deck cleat backing plates
Howdy (from my Texas A&M days) I joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary and am studying for crewman status. I saw some interesting dimensions regarding cleat backing plates. They recommend that the thickness of a metal (not aluminum) plate should be the same as the largest bolt diameter. If hardwood o...

Re: Overboard Discharge
Been there, done that. We sailed to Cuba in December and while the red valve was open, it wasn't discharging. At the marina, I opened the access and.......ever seen a S_ _ _ volcano? Anyway, got back to Venice and tried the plumber's snake, etc. etc. Finally, I covered the toilet bowl with a plastic...

Re: New Honda EU 2200i
Hi. I have two Yamaha 2000s with a parallel cable to double the output. My A/C is 16.5 kBtu and like the other posts, one won't start the A/C. However, once it does start with the two, I can turn off one of them and it will keep the A/C running, albeit barely (when the compressor cycles). I thought ...

Davis wind indicator
Hi. I think a large bird (pterodactyl) landed on my wind indicator and destroyed it. I bought a new one, but then noticed my old one has a 90 degree elbow to offset it from the mast. I could not find a replacement angle on the Davis website. any ideas on where to get one or was this a DIY add on? th...

Re: veneer
Thanks for the tips. In fact, Len over at Catalina parts said their millworks can produce new veneers! My portlight got hit from a wave and leaked water into and down the veneer before I discovered it (had charts stacked up over it. Len said a new veneer is $250 (or close to it). So I am going to go...

veneer
Hi. My veneer is discolored by the sun. I also tried to "polish" it with Lemon Pledge which made the splotches worse! Has anyone tried to sand and re-poly the wood? Or maybe use a tinted polyurethane?
thanks

Re: Holding tank
Boy, I never thought a toilet could cause so much trouble. On our trip to Cuba, I opened the tank drain and ASSUMED it was draining. HA! After awhile, the toilet wouldn't flush. When we got to the Marina, i carefully unscrewed the holding tank deck access...... (note to all, the tank is plastic and ...

Re: sailing to Cuba from the Dry Tortugas
Well, we made it back from Cuba. Great trip and the Stream was not a problem. Customs in Cuba and Key West.....not so.
I would recommend Varadero (78 miles east of Havana) as a fantastic trip/marina.

what to do when engine is off?
Hi. I kinda remember in this forum about what to do with the transmission when sailing. I have the flexifold prop and THINK I should keep it in reverse, but need an update from all the 350 experts.
thanks

sailing to Cuba from the Dry Tortugas
Hi. I am not worried about getting thrown in a prison there (well see below), but crossing the Gulf Stream in December in 2.5 weeks, YES! I wonder if anyone has done it (and lived- wait, if they didn't I guess they couldn't respond!) I would love to have some advice. I know that a North/Northeast/Ea...

Re: Time for a Barrier Coat?
Hi All. Yet another bottom paint question. My boat is a 2016 (however, I am in the process of altering the manufacture date so it will read 2026). Anyway, when I got it, it had ablative paint and I did a re-paint three times over the years - no problem, since i did sail it frequently on the East Coa...

How to tell what NMEA version I have
Hi. My Garmin Chartplotter cannot find out where it is. I want to purchase another Garmin GPS receiver and see that there are two, one is for NMEA 2000 and the other for 0183. Unfortunately, I am not at the boat, but was wondering if the boat is a 2006, could it have either of those installed? If it...

Re: Another Tachometer Problem
I agree 100% with Ken et. al. about connections. Before I left for the Dry Tortugas, I turned on my Garmin plotter and....no signal????? frustrated, all I did was unscrew the connector (waterproof) to the GPS antenna, blew across the pins and re-connected it. Bingo. This also happened to my tach. In...

fuel gauge not working
Hi. All. My gauge has progressively been degrading. On our last trip, it would fluctuate between 3/4 full (the correct amount) and zero (the incorrect amount). I checked the ground on the tank, but other than that not sure what else I should have done. I figured it could be the gauge.... Subsequentl...

Re: Main Sail Furler
Hi. I was wondering if anybody has replaced the main furling line without removing the sail? It seems like I could use a coat hangar shaped like a question mark and thread the new line around the auger flights. But, if I tried this, would it still be possible to loosen that bolt that holds the end o...

Re: Genoa Furling Line Specs
thanks for the suggestion. I failed (as is my custom) to mention that I wanted to know the type (now I know), but the thickness for the MAIN furler.
I think it is 3/8, but maybe a tad thinner????
