Re: Heaving to?

Surprised this question never got any answers and even more surprised I've never tried heaving to on our 350. :) I used to heave to frequently on one of our other boats when I reefed sails, etc, but have never had to on the 350. I think it's worth a practice some time and suspect you might have to p...

You also always have the option of letting the traveler go if you need to depower quickly.

Re: Parts for all of us

I've been a member of their forums over there for a number of years now. The online parts store has always had great customer service. I recently picked up a screen for the trapezoidal hatch in the bow from them, as our boat didn't have one when we got it, though the hinges were there for it. Pricin...

Re: Mainsheet Cam Cleat Replaced By Rope Clutch

Nice. I've just always used the winch for the main sheet. I repurposed that cam cleat for my cunningham when we got new sails.

Re: Old or new cutlass bearing?

The older one had a plastic (phenolic) shell. The later ones had a brass shell. It will be pretty obvious as either should be installed with about 3/4" protruding so you have something to grab onto to try to twist it out. With most of the plastic ones, this is a lost cause as the shell shatters...

Re: thermostat alternative

I don't, but welcome to the OMG, they're pretty proud of that part club. You might try cross referencing that motor over to Kubota and see what is in the Kubota offering for it, assuming the equipment version runs at the same temps.

No need to measure. They have the 350 in their database.

Re: Does the 350 Have A Prop Shaft Taper?

With your specs, I don't really have an idea if what they spec'd is right, but I can only relate my experience with dealing with them earlier this year. I was considering one of their props so asked for a quote. The transmission in our 2003 has a forward ratio of 1.88 reverse 1.95. They came back wi...

I'm still a tried and true flooded lead acid guy, but thought I'd post the following link to a drop-in LiFePO4 article written by one of the experts in the marine electrical business. All you ever wanted to know and more :-). Hope it's some use to those considering the conversion. https://marinehowt...

Taper should be to SAE J755 specifications.

Re: How load test 6V Golf Cart Batteries When Out Of Boat

The reason you haven't been able to find someone to test your 6v deep cycle batteries is because it's not an easy task to do that. They have ratings based on a steady discharge at a measured rate, so you'll find a spec for discharge at the 20 hour discharge rate. That means, if you set up a test ben...

Flexofold sizing

Question on Flexofold 3 blade prop sizing for those who have one. I've read the existing forum posts on this board and am more confused than ever after getting a quote from flexofold. Our 2003 has a 3 blade fixed Sailer on it (14 × 10) that works fine. M35b engine with ZF15 MA transmission with 1.88...

Recommend Vermont Sailing Partners in Winooski, Vt. He's made 2 sets of custom sails for us, one for a Seaward 25 and another set for our 350. Can't say enough good about this loft. Everything is designed, cut and sewn in house. Great quality and perfect fit.

Re: Fluid Replacement Recommendations

To the OP, Dexron transmission fluid only in that transmission. You need the older Dexron before they changed it to synthetic. The only place I can find it now is at NAPA stores. They sell it as "Dex/Merc". Our transmission rebuilder was adamant about this. Also change it every time you do...

Re: Fluid Replacement Recommendations

Don't use Dexcool. Peak Final Charge Global is a good heavy duty diesel choice. You can probably find it at Walmart or a parts store. You'll need 2 gal.

Nice catch, (so to speak). Concerning the timing mark hole, where exactly is it? I took a quick look recently, but couldn't find it. Also planning on adjusting valves once I get the correct gasket and seals.

Re: Engine stopped running

Concerning the plastic instrument panel, Rick Kremel from the Catalina 350 Facebook group had several made custom from stainless he then had powder coated white. He's selling off the spares. Major improvement. I'm finally able to seal it to the pedestal with butyl tape. The ring on the outside of th...

Steering shaft info requested

I'm planning on installing a Lewmar folding wheel on our boat. Can anyone verify whether the steering wheel shaft on a 2003 model year boat (hull 53) is a 1" tapered shaft or 1" straight shaft. The parts breakdown figure I found on the Edson site shows a tapered shaft for our pedestal. I w...

Re: Sold my C34 now looking to buy a 350

Another fan of the Dutchman system on ours. I specifically looked for a boat without in mast furling when we bought ours. That said, I can appreciate the OP wanting a furling system. I actually asked our sailmaker about cost of an in-boom system when we were pricing sails but decided it was cost pro...
