Re: Genoa Furling Line Specs
Hi. While the info on lengths and lines sizes is great help, I need info on WHAT kind on line to order. I have enough strange lengths of rope ( I remember it is rope until it is installed!), that the America's Cup said I could be the supplier for ALL the cats. So, any help would be.... helpful? than...

Re: Emergency rudder opening full of water
Hi. My o-ring looked bad as well, so I bought a piece of neoprene o-ring material and made my own. It is very easy to do. You use super glue to connect the two ends, but rather than cutting the two vertically, you overlap them and cut at a 45 degree angle. That provides more surface area for the glu...

Re: Exhuast Elbow
Boy, what a great forum! Thanks to the above responses. Yes, it was strange that it occurred "suddenly". I will definitely check the elbow fitting into the strainer. In fact, got to thinking that we went through some strange sea grass particles when we arrived at the Fort. They were disper...

Re: Exhuast Elbow
update. I removed the heat exchanger and the small tubes looked clean (I had replaced it two years ago). So, I am going to put the original one back in. However, I did notice that when I tried to remove the last hose (the one on top coming from the coolant tank, there was some cracks in it. I had no...

Re: Exhaust Elbow
Hi. Rats. Just got back from a 370 mile cruise to the Dry Tortugas from Venice. Going was great, coming back not so. The engine ran fine down to the fort, but coming back it started to overheat. Had to tow it the last 15 miles (thank goodness for SeaTow) Anyway, checked the strainer, changed the the...

painting a hull
Hi. All. (just think, only 362 more days till Thanksgiving!) I just happened to pass by a boat that had been painted blue. It looked very nice. But then I thought, why don't others (aka me) do it? I don't think I have ever seen a Catalina painted (at least not in person). So, can someone tell me the...

Re: Does Water Heater Work Off 12V?
Hi. Leigh and Bret are correct. Mine is also a 2006 model. I do have an inverter, but don't see any advantage trying to hook the water heater up to it, since you would have to run the engine or the batteries would die. What I did do - I have two Yamaha 2000 W inverter generators (aka like the Hondas...

Re: damaged mast wind indicator
Hi. I too have a damaged wind angle indicator. It is the Windex that is separate from the Raymarine wind instrument. I purchased a new one and when I went up the mast, I found that the original one's aluminum mounting rod is not straight but has a couple of 90 degree bends to get it away from an ant...

Re: Heat exchanger cleaning
Hi. I replaced my original heat exchanger but after sand-blasting (only the outside!) and painting, it looks like new. However, I saw that the small tubes have a white coating on their outside (probably calcium carbonate). This can't help with heat transfer and I was wondering if anyone had tried Li...

locker under forward berth
Ok, would someone (likely Leigh) please explain: 1. How the $%*(+$*+ do you get to that huge locker under the mattress without a chain saw and cutting the mattress in half 2. Assuming (a very iffy word) that one can get to it easily, what do you store in it? The 2 is because any water entering the c...

Cockpit Forum
I didn't see a heading for this and unless the cockpit is enclosed completely, I couldn't ask my question on the Cabin Forum. Anyway, when a brother (former, since I tossed him overboard) drops the winch handle and makes a small scrape/pit on the cockpit floor, what is the best way to "repair&q...

Re: Damper Replacement
Hmm. There is another nut below the motor flange that allows you to raise and lower the engine relative to the rubber mounts. I put another wrench on it and stopped the mount from twisting.

Re: Transmission clicking
WHAT!!!! You hear it standing on the dock? Well, I am ASSUMING that the engine was running. If not, you need to see a doctor. Does it happen in neutral? what about forward and reverse? I don't remember, but I am not sure MY ticking varied with rpm.

Re: Transmission clicking
The ticking is when the engine is off. And since I live in florida, I only turn on the heater when the temp drops below 31 (C)

Re: Transmission clicking
Hi. same here with the sound. It was driving me crazy and would only stop if I put the transmission in reverse. I have a folding prop and someone said he thought it was one or more of the blades flapping (opening and closing) as the water rushed past it. I don't know about that, but he said for sure...

Re: Genoa Furling Line Specs
wow. replaced ALL the running rigging! Do you off chance have the lengths and sizes of all of them? I see in a previous post that both the 5/16 and 7/16 inch diameters were used. Does anybody have a preference? I want to do all of mine as well. Also, I am at a loss as to what kind of line to purchas...

Re: Genoa Furling Line Specs
I too am having a hard time figuring out replacement lengths/sizes. If Leigh Weiss is reading these posts, he would definitely know ALL of the dimensions, since I understand he replaces his every 6 months.
