Re: Solar panel selection
My reply on the solar does not need to be "private", I don't see how to make it "public". Fell free to share if it is helpful. -John

Re: Solar panel selection
Renogy Solar provided my two flexable panels (100w ea.) as well as controller and wiring. The wiring is attached to the controller which is wall mounted under nav station. Wiring to batteries is run behind shore power Charles charger and to batteries. To reach solar pannels on bimini wiring is run a...

Re: Upgrade to High output alternator
In so. Cal. we have two 100 w solar panels, flexiable type, which we attach to the bimini during our trips. We just replaced our 55 amp Mando with another identical 55 amp (such an easy job!). The two solar panels replace enough amps (150+- each day) we don't need to start engine for recharging. We ...

Re: Upgrade to High output alternator
Alternator replacement with higher output.... ? Seems everyone has encountered challenges. Why not install solar panels, 200 watts or so, and continue with a 50 amp alternator, not run engine to charge batteries ?

Re: M35B cooling system hoses
Universal sell a bag of replacement hoses for your engine; all pre-cut, properly formed, I think new clamps included as well.

Re: Preventer?
May want to use a "figure 8" climbing ring instead of just a carabiner on the mast. With this you can better adjust tension on the line being used as a preventer.

Re: Problems unfurling the Main
I try to look for the most basic thing first. If the sail has not been hoisted tight enough when pressure from the outhaul is applied the "S" hook attachment at the foot of the sail may be catching as it turns around inside the mast. You may get a few feet unfurled before this happens. - J...

Re: 6V Golf Cart Battery Upgrade
Has anyone tried a WEGO to start their diesel engine ? I have used one to start a car; may be an option to installing a starter battery.

Re: Additional Seating/Footrest
I use round, small upholstered foot stools (I think from Home Goods). Changed the bottom so it opens up, we store lightweight stuff inside them. These are very versatile; can be brought on deck, used anywhere- and inexpensive. We placed pads on the bottom so they don't slip around or mar the floor.

Re: Diesel fill cap O-ring?
I used an O-Ring kit for making just about any size needed. Came with lengths of rubber, different diameters. You cut to length and glue ends together. Might not be perfect for high pressure but good for fill caps.

Re: Engine overheating
So here is what I did: Took off both end caps; checked the starboard end for old, broken off pieces of zincs, removing what I found; untwisted a wire coat hanger (the short pigtail fit just right inside the tubes) and reamed out each tube. I did not remove the exchanger from the boat. Engine runs at...

Re: Boom-Mast Orientation
The boom vang adjustment is there to improve sail shape, there is not a static "best" position. If you read about using a boom vang on the internet you'll better understand (and read more than one source). As to the mark the previous owner placed it may be there for furling/unfurling. For ...

Sounds like you have something on your prop/prop shaft hitting the hull. I'd dive in and take a look.

Re: Air in Fuel Line?
John: There is a fuel bleed valve located on the starboard side on the MB35 engine near the thermostat housing (just below it as I recall). It is a petcock valve, easy to see. Open this slightly and try starting your engine. Cover it with a rag as when fuel comes out it is under pressure and will sh...

Re: Coolant Level Question
If you see no evidence of coolant leaking (no coolant in the bilge, near water heater, etc.) there may be coolant going out with the fresh/sea water via a crack/leak in the heat exchanger. Hope not, but a pressure test on it would confirm.- John

Re: Gate stanchions
The stanchions are thru bolted. On the port side you'll need to remove the panel above the nav desk, look up under the inside coming; you see the nuts and washers. I've not done the starboard but expect a similar attachment. - John

Re: Heat exchanger
Cleaning the heat exchanger tubes can be done with a wire coat hanger. The twists in the end (after you twist one apart) seem to fit exactly the small tubes in the exchanger. i removed both end caps, pushed thru (with some twisting) the coat hanger wire (could possibly use a correct gauge rifle clea...
