Re: Cabin top winch starboard

Bill, if you are going to service the port side jib sheet winch, I'm dying to know how you access the nuts on the underside of the winch as I've wanted to torque the nuts on the winches. I've looked and cannot find the underside of that port side winch. I'm starting to think I'll have to cut an acce...

Re: Cabin top winch starboard

Harry, you are correct that there's a metal plate under the rope clutches. As to whether the plate extends to the cabin top winch, I'd call Warren Pandy at Catalina, who clued me in about the plate under the clutches.

Boat Insurance

I've been insured with Boat US/Geico for the past 2 years, during which they've raised my rates over 50%, to nearly $1,400/yr. We're on the west coast, so no exposure to hurricanes, and we've had no claims. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Re: Working jib - 100/110%

I believe my sail maker said my custom jib was about a 115. In So. Cal we have 10 to 15 knots pretty consistently and I've always been happy with a 115 on my 350 and 120 on my previous '34. Today was making 6.5 knots thru water with about 12 knots of wind, close reach.

Access To Port Cockpit Winch

I was considering torquing the mounting stud nuts on my winches. However, I can't see any underside access to the port side winch from the aft cabin. I think it's hidden under the head liner. Do I have to cut an access hole in the headliner to access the winch mounting nuts?

Re: Lewmar Opening Portlight Seal

I believe I bought mine at Catalina direct. I agree that the split should be at the top. Less likely to leak. I really struggled to put my new seal in, and temporarily gave up from exhaustion. After reflecting on my effort, I believe I was not putting it correctly as I think I was reading the instal...

Re: Mast and water in bilge

Just a few ideas. Check: >The anchor locker drain (from inside and under the locker?). I haven't had eyes this setup on my 350 yet, but my 34 anchor locker had a drain and hose connection to a thru hull. If that hose or connections was faulty, then it would leak into the bilge. >Your cockpit drain h...

Re: Oberdorfer N202M-908 Raw Water Pump Installation

Hi Mike, I just installed the kit that you're referring to about 3 weeks ago. I had the boat out and under power for over 2 hours a couple weeks ago. Engine ran at 162 degrees, as always. My mechanic had not previously seen the OB/Sherwood swap-out before, but said he was impressed with it and of co...

Try Garhauer Marine. I believe the owner owns a 350.

Re: Exhuast Elbow

Check the integrity of all the hoses. Are all fittings tight, any cracks or leaks? I'd also consider changing the impeller before I removed the HX.

Re: Oberdorfer N202M-908 Raw Water Pump Installation

Hi Everyone. I was on the phone with Corey at Depco Pumps yesterday. I have a 2006 Universal M35B engine and was looking to replace my Sherwood pump with the Oberdorfer pump. Up until now, the latest recommended Oberdorfer replacement pump that I’ve seen was the N202M-908. Depco said this was the co...

Re: Refrigerator drain

I've noticed with our foot pump that if the water level is not very high...the pump will not operate. Once the water in the refrigerator gets to a certain level...it will pump all the water out. I've tried this a few times over the past few weeks and it's the same every time. Dvolkman, I noticed th...

Does Water Heater Work Off 12V?

I'm a relatively new owner of a 2006 model 350, and have always used the water heater after the engine was running, or when on shore power. My question is, will the water heater run off of 12 volt DC, or only AC via shore power on an inverter? Thanks.

Re: Problems unfurling the Main

All of my comments on main furling are relative to the Charleston mast that is on my 2006 boat. Yes, the outhaul tension is one key element to a good furl as it helps keep tension on the foot. But proper boom elevation (and it's affect on leach vs foot tension) is also critical to relieving the tens...

Re: Problems unfurling the Main

Jerry, on my boat, the Main's (taught) leach is not causing the outhaul car to jam on the track, the taught leach is pulling the flexible middle section of the foil into the interior wall of the mast's sail groove, thus jamming the foil and sail into the groove, like a brake shoe against a brake dru...

Re: Problems unfurling the Main

MarkElliott, Being on a starboard tack will help the most (if there is some wind) because the wind will a)push the sail away from the starboard edge of the sail groove, reducing friction, and b) the wind helps unfurl the sail, reducing the need to crank on the outhaul and reducing the risk of jammin...

Re: Problems unfurling the Main

Aussie, I've heard the "rigid boom vang" comment previously. The PO of my boat thought his BV was "rigid" because it didn't have blocks and lines on it (BV downhaul assembly). However the "rigid boom vang" on my boat still adjusts; If you "twist" the outer tub...
