Re: Charles 5000 Series to ProNautic 1240P Battery Charger Swap - Case Ground?

A couple of points here. There is no such thing as a DC ground. If you are grounding the case it will be for an AC fault where the hot wire makes contact with the case. What people refer to all the time as a DC ground is simply a negative return path to the battery. I have never seen a C350 with a b...

Sea Lanes Sold

Hi all,
After three years of enjoyable sailing on a fantastic boat, I find I can no longer sail due to neck issues. With regret we have sold Sea Lanes and moved to the dark side. We bought a mainship trawler 400.
Fair winds,

Re: Lithium Batteries

Thanks. It is important to note that the only way to measure capacity of lifepo4 batteries is to use a shunt/ammeter. Great news about the fridge and an important point to make. Li batteries have 13 v on tap continuously until they are flat. Which is why you need the shunt. Volts tell you nothing wi...

Re: Engine DC Power On/Off Switch - What does it do?

Agree with Olivia Mae, Always switch off the engine start battery when away from the boat. This shuts off 12 volt power to the pedestal and thus you cannot have the problem of a 12v wire being chafed and putting a constant voltage into the steering chain/rudder and you won't have your rudder fall of...

Furler foils parted

Hi all Yesterday when underway, went forward to check on everything. Looked up to see the head sail with a gaping hole near the luff about two feet from the top. From a quick assessment before furling the sail and de-tensioning the headsail it appears as if the top foil has separated from the one be...

Oven gas certification - Australia

Hi all Looking to get a gas certificate for my vessel. I know for the Aust certificate I will have to run copper pipe and remove the solenoid from the gas bottle locker. But does anyone in Oz know if the USA built stove is certifiable. Or do I have to replace it with one of those magnificent Chinese...

Re: Lithium Batteries

In answer to the questions of can you get by with the standard alt. Yes you can but only with the dc to dc charger. My dc to dc cannot be limited so it will pass through up to it’s max, which is 30 amps. I have hardwired the alt to only the starter battery. Bypassing the combined switch so there is ...

Re: Engine does not start

Underneath the electric fuel pump there is a small red button. This is the reset for the 20amp breaker shown in the electrical diagrams. Press it (won’t hurt anything) and see if she starts. Edit: you said you had power to the b term of the key switch so the breaker should be okay. Next stop is the ...

Re: Reverse Polarity

This can sometimes be erroneous. I have seen it several times at pedestals in my marina (240v Australia). Sounds silly but plug it in to another shore pedestal, before blaming the cable.

Re: Running Light Wiring?

Hi, My port running light didn't stop working but I tore it off S/S mount and all with my Assy tack line. When I installed a new light the wire to the light was black with corrosion and no voltage was detected at the two connectors. In my case I was able to cut off about 6" of external wire to ...

Fridge freezer divider bulkhead

Hi all, I have an issue with smell in my fridge and freezer. It is self inflicted, in that when we last turned off the freezer we inadvertently left a cryovac-ed expensive steak in the freezer compt. It was jammed between the evap plate and the outer bulkhead of the freezer ie unnoticed. Our system ...

Sorry just saw this. Yes you just unscrew the plastic outer cover from the front of the panel and the buzzer drops out the back. Should be fairly robust.

Re: Engine stopped running

Need to post a correction to my June 26 post when I said This is why it the buzzer stops when you move it to this position. IE you have 12v on the + side and the P side of the buzzer (= no voltage diff so no buzzer). . I need to check this but in examining the circuit again, it makes more sense for ...

Re: Engine stopped running

Hi Jim, My earlier post covers most of the issues re the buzzer. Importantly, with the battery switch on You should have 12+v at the B term of the ignition switch. If you then move to the first detente (2 oclock) you are then powering the engine gauges and the alarm buzzer (IE the key switch connect...

Re: Engine stopped running

on my boat the key switch in the 2 o'clock position energizes the engine circuits as well as the electrical lift pump The electrical lift pump should only receive 8 volts at this point (check) and should not run (This is the "I" position in the doco). 4 volts is dropped across the buzzer ...

Re: Battery Test Switch

From memory this is wired to the input terminals of the battery selector switch. You could check there, but if neither is working then I would look at the negative battery connector which will almost certainly be common for both. I am unable to visit my boat to confirm atm as down with Covid and in ...
