I did not remove any panels. I shoved my hand behind and up on the top of the holding tank. It was okay for short durations, and the long knife helped. The hose was very badly stuck on the barbed fitting and it took me a while to remove a sufficient amount so I can pull it out.

I replaced the discharge hose last year. It is attached to a barbed connector on top of the holding tank. I used a heat gun very sparingly and a long kitchen knife. It needs a lot of patience. Good luck !

It's a good idea to check if it works, and I need to do the same too instead of taking it for granted. I don't think my bilge pump has a check valve. I cant remember what I have, but I think it's a Rule. What type of pump do you have, and where is the check valve???

My understanding is that it is self-purging. I keep the key to the glow position for about 20 seconds and then I let the engine run for a while to make sure that the air has been purged. I was told to fill up the filter with diesel, so I always keep a small amount of diesel in a water bottle.
