Sam,

Many thanks for your offer to post your check list and pictures of the storm preparations you undertook. I would think they should be posted under the main part of the C350IA website.

Dave, As you know the power vent kit from Adler/Barbour includes a shroud, the 4 inch length of duct and the blower. I had the shroud mouted in front of the condenser so that the cooling air is pulled through the condenser and blown over the compressor. (Although the fan on the compressor unit can b...

Refrigerator Duty Cycle

Hans, I have not tried to measure the duty cycle by means of an hour meter. I would judge the duty cyle to be near 50 to 60 percent. Since you will not be back to your boat until October, I will try to install a hour meter within the next month to record the run time. I should mention that I keep th...

Refrigerator Improvement Project

Dave, How long does it take for your unit to build up 1/4 inch of ice on the evaporator? The Alder/Barbour manual suggests that you need to make sure that the unit is air tight if you have more than 1/4 inch buildup within 3 - 4 weeks. Before using expandable foam to seal the area between the top of...

John, The kit is easy to install, so you should not have any concern that it is more than you can handle. When you place the templet onto the top of the engine enclosure, move it to the right by 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the port side so that there is sufficent clearence between the fiddle of lid of th...

Gori Propeller

Hans, W.r.t. your question, yes "too large a wheel" means "too large of a propeller." Because of the cavitation problem I have had since purchasing my boat, hull# 207, and because I hoped to get somewhat better performance under sail, I purchased a Gori 3 blade propeller from AB ...

Greg, At the request of AB Marine, I ran some sea trials with the Gori three blade 16.5 x 9 propeller last Sunday. To be sure I was getting a good tach reading I used a non contact hand held tach to validate the rpm reading on my instrument panel. I was pleased to note that the panel mounted tach is...

The thickness of the bulkhead between the salon and aft state room is about 5/8 inch. The location you are thinking of works well for a 15 inch flat screen TV, so I would think it will also work for a 23 inch unit. My TV is attached to a wall mount which is adjustable in the horizontal plane by abou...

Gerg, Have you had a chance to try out your new Gori prop? I had my boat out for the first time after having installed my new prop. It is a 16.5 x 9 three blade. The performance was great -- no cavitation and outstanding control while backing. My only concern is that the max rpm was only 2,500 in st...

Greg, I fitted my Gori 3 bladed prop last week. Had to used a "substantial" hub puller to get the old prop off. The Gori instructions were fine other than the fact that they did not give a direction of view when indicating the direction in which to turn the rear sleeve. I found it to be a ...

Because I do not wish to be limited by lack of ground tackle, my primary is a 35 lbs. Delta and 200 feet of HT 5/16 chain. Additionally, I carry 250 feet of line and a two additional anchors. The 200 feet of chain and 35 lbs. Delta help to keep the stern an inch or so above the water with full fuel,...

George, The use of a flexible coupling was the first solution attempted by Catalina. At our Fleet 5 meeting in March 2005, I mentioned that after discussions with Frank and Gerry, Catalina sent a flexible coupling to me to try to resolve the problem. Unfortunately the space between the transmission ...

Folding Prop - Gori 3 Blade

Does any C350 owner have experience with the Gori 3 Blade prop under sail? How much of a speed change can one expect under sail vs a standard three blades 15 x 9 at 10- 15 k? I am interested in actual results -- not the spec sheet info, which I have. Also, any problems with cavitation? How would you...

Stan,

I agree with your solution. Having to remove a thumbscrew to drain the water is not practical. My airplane fuel tanks had petcock valves to drain the water. They work great. I would like to find a means of draining the muffler without having to tear the whole stateroom apart.

Prop Selection

Bill, I received a letter from Frank's office advising me that Catalina was in the final stages of selecting the R14 x 10 Dyna-Jet propeller; it having had the best performance of the props they tested. I assume that they are refering to your tests. Have you had a chance to evaluate the effect of th...

Richard, Thanks for the info on the Autoprop. I have been thinking of replacing my prop with a folding prop to get better speed under sail. Bill, Thanks for the update from Gerry indicating that the good folks at Catalina are still working to resolve the problem. Cavitation

Bill Cullen working with Gerry Douglas has been testing a number of props to measure the effect a change in props has on the cavitation/vibration problem some of us have been having. Bill reported that the changing to a 14 x 10 three bladed prop versus the 15 x 9 installed as an option on many of ou...
