Re: Cutting down the mast height
Hi, We have a little history with the C350 furling short mast. We bought our boat as a project after it was damaged in Hurricane Ivan. We later learned that the mast had been factory-delivered with one that did not exceed 48' above the waterline. It was about 4' shorter than a normal C350 furling ma...

Re: Boiling batteries
Many times, one of the 6 cells (in a 12V battery) has shorted. That will reduce the battery's voltage by one cell, or a nearly two volts. That will fool the charger into thinking it needs to keep the charge rate up. If this is a flooded cell type battery, you will usually visually see that one of th...

Re: Fuel Sending Unit
Ken, I'm sorry, but I don't remember the original model number. But that is where I got in trouble! The old model # was no longer made by Wema, but it was the 12" size, so I ordered the "exact" replacement of the newer version. That newer version while also being a 12" model, was...

Re: Fuel Sending Unit
Hello Ken,
Please go over to the "engine" section, and look up my earlier post: "fuel tank level sensor". It will give you the info you need I believe.
Thanks,

Re: Replacing the hot water heater
Well, I'm not sure this will be helpful or not. We have hull #13 that we got as a project boat, after it had sunk some years back. Our water heater also had to be replaced. I bought an identical Seward 11-gallon unit, and when I went to take it out, I saw the same thing. There was no easy way the ol...

Re: Raritan PHII and PHEII conversion
We've never been very particular about the liquid deodorant type, usually just the generic camper-stuff on the shelf at walmart. When we first got the boat, it had been on the hard for a few years, and the bottom of the holding tank was rock-solid as you describe. I remember after an initial drain, ...

Re: Raritan PHII and PHEII conversion
We converted to the manual PHII soon after we got the boat. We didn't alter the existing hose arrangement, just basically attached the existing waste hose to the new toilet. The toilet-to-tank waste hose reducer fitting was in-line, about half way up the hose running up the side of the tank. We've h...

Re: Cutlass Bearing Replacement
We have an early hull, #13. The original cutless bearing had a fiberglass outer shell instead of the newer metal type cylinder shell that was on the replacement. There are two set screws, one on each side holding the existing bearing in place. If you have the metal bearing cylinder, and enough is sh...

Fuel Tank level sensor
Hey All, Just wanted to give some info to anyone that needs to replace the level sensor in the C350 fuel tank. Ours would stick at 7/8 full or above, and the problem was definitely the sensor. I pulled the old sensor and saw it was a Wema Systems marked as "SUF 12", and measured very close...

Re: Hot Water Heater - H2O not heated from running engine.
Richard, My 2 cents to add please. Before thinking about check valves, etc., I suggest a simple test. With the engine running and up to temperature, feel the two small hoses attached to the thermostat housing. One should be quite hot, carrying the heated engine coolant out to the water heater. (The ...

Re: Engine Over heating
It is the fresh-water/antifreeze loop that heats the water in the heater. 1st thing to check is that you have full coolant level as viewed by removing the radiator cap (when cold!) Don't just trust the level in the overflow tank as an indication. Beyond that, as already suggested, check the thermost...

Re: Rudder 'play' question
We dropped the rudder on ours early on during the early repairs of our hull #13. It was relatively easy. Hardest part for us was digging the hole! Remove steering cables from the round steering quadrant disc. Remove bolts holding the two disc halves together, and separate them from the rudder post. ...

Re: Engine Over heating
There is another bleeder valve back on the fresh water heater in the rear of the boat. This is where the two small hoses coming off of the thermostat housing go to. In my experience, you need to have the RPMs up a fair amount, say about 2000RPM for a few moments while letting air out of that rear va...

Re: High Engine Temp Buzzer
I've been all over this circuit while doing the restoration of our project boat, hull #13. Basically, the key to the alarm circuit is the oil pressure switch. Instead of the usual "one terminal to ground" style of pressure switch, this one has two terminals that short together when there i...

Re: Chain plate leak
Thanks Bill. I looked closer at our boat as well. It is rigged the same way as yours, with the internal turnbuckles only on the forward shrouds. The chainplate that is leaking has the turnbuckle, so will probably attack that very soon. I may just rebed all of them while the rig is loose. Thanks agai...

Re: Chain plate leak
Thank you for this detailed information Bill! One last question... On the lower tie rods that go from the underside of the deck down to the hull attachment point, is yours a one piece solid rod all the way? I have what appears to be a cylindrical turnbuckle-type device on each tie rod. This is on th...

Chain plate leak
Hi All, I'm starting to see some water leakage at two of my shroud attachment plates inside the boat. The plates look like they are attached to the deck with four bolts, and the plate is grabbed underneath by a ball and socket arrangement. Has anyone dissassembled and rebedded one of these yet? I do...

Re: Furling Halyard Keeper
If you are just trying to replace the halyard with new, you don't really have to take that keeper off, and you can put in a new halyard from the deck. (This same method can be used to re-configure lines at the mast head, but you have to go up there!) First, take some older sacrificial line, at least...

The bulletins noted are about the cracking fuel filter bracket, not the heat exchanger bracket. I haven't seen any Westerbeke/Universal bulletin about that yet.
