Re: Water Supply Valve

Hello Greg. Have you checked with Catalina Direct? (916) 379-5882

Jillian cd1@catalinadirect.com
or Kent cd2@catalinadirect.com

If no luck- I suggest Warren Pandy at Catalina. He’s the Yoda for all things Catalina- warren@catalinayachts.com

Sad day with mixed emotions-sold our C350

It is with mixed emotions that we will be parting with one of the finest boats I have had the pleasure of sailing in 50yrs- (C350 #212) out of Kenosha. I am certain the new owners will enjoy her as much as we have. We have spent 7 amazing seasons cruising and racing the Great Lakes (mostly Lake Mich...

HELP? Broken plastic screen hatch hinge

We are trying to locate the part of the hinge screen that attaches to the screen (not the bracket on the framing). Mine cracked and broke on both sides of hatch above forward berth. wrote to CatalinaDirect and they do not have that Harken part anymore (it’s been out of production for some time). The...

Re: WooHoo! Just saw my first 350 in person

Hello Will! Our lovingly cared for 2004 C350 Ave Maria is currently listed with Sailplace/YachtWorld in Kenosha. Feel free to PM me and I’d be happy to answer any questions about her. We are only parting with her as the Admiral found a C385 we like. She is a fantastic boat in excellent condition. Jo...

Ave Maria for sale 2004 C350

It is with VERY mixed emotions that we have put our beloved 2004 C350 (Ave Maria) up for sale. We LOVE the boat and would not be considering parting with her except we found a C385 that is in pristine condition. The Admiral likes many of the features on the 385 (larger cockpit, slightly larger bunks...

repair of push button latch on aft cabin closet door

Hello fellow sailor! Looking for some input and thoughts on best way to repair the silver circular pushbutton ring surroundiung the latch for the aft cabin door on the closet? I know I could just glue the silver ring outside the pushbutton to keep in place, but am not keen on that, in cae I ever hav...

Re: Using Dinette Table as a Platform for an Aerobed

Hello neighbor! Great to see y’all are planning what sounds like a fun trip! I believe there is a small folding-leg bench that is used to fill gap between wall and tables edge after large table is lowered using the shorter posts. I have both the bench and shorter posts & cushion to make into a b...

Considering swapping my 2004 C350 for a 2006 387

We are considering selling my C350 and purchasing a C387. I don’t really want to part with our 350 (both the Admiral and are struggling with this decision). However I really like the large aft cabin, genset, newer electronics and especially the way (I think) it will move thru the Lake Mi waters with...

Re: Epic sail- C350 flying…

Correction, thx to a savvy forum member correcting my flawed attempt at practicing math/geometry in public. :D I was sailing as closehauled as possible (w/tails flying evenly) and comparing hdg/cog on one tack to hdg/cog on opposite tack and dividing the difference by 2 to get closest angle to wind ...

Re: Epic sail- C350 flying…

To properly answer yer question- I can only point to about 50degrees closehauled. Perhaps others can get closer to the wind? If so, I’d love to know how..

Re: Epic sail- C350 flying…

I’ve experimented with a number of different configurations. Generally in winds over 15+kts , (closehauled) I find a 90% jib and full main helps me to get @50-55 degrees to wind and good speed. As wind picks up I roll in main. Like most Catalina’s I’ve sailed (30 36 & 42) when beating hard (55-4...

Re: Epic sail- C350 flying…

Wow. That’s astounding. I’m very humbled Russ. Well done. Similarly, early on in my ownership we had a 24 hour charge up the Australian coast with 25+ kts off the rear quarter. 150 genoa and main stayed up and she was very stable and comfortable, steered much more steadily with autopilot than me !, ...

Epic sail- C350 flying…

For anyone who thinks C350 is not fast,..in the right conditions, I’ve found it can fly. We were sailing with new main and 2nd season w/155 Genoa for 75nm sail from Muskegon-Kenosha across Lake Mi. Tight port reach/sometimes beating in 15-20kts and 1-3’ swells nearly on our nose. AVG sog (no tide) o...

Re: Hook race - Racine-Menominee

Thx for asking. Winds on nose so racking battle against racers was not working in my favor. After all the prep, it just wasn’t meant to be for me this year. I sailed 43nm in 9.5 hours and only travelled 17nm from Racine on a 189nm race that has to be finished in 56hrs. The math didn’t work, unless w...

Hook race - Racine-Menominee

For anyone interested in following, I’m sailing up lake Mi in The Hook Race this weekend. New Evolution autopilot rocks for this solo racer!

Heaving to?

Has anyone practiced heaving to? In either mild seas/wind or heavier conditions? Just looking for thoughts from others about what went well and what could have gone better or what they’d change for the next time?

Thx for feedback. I’ll get a chance to try out for first time Tuesday and use on SuperHook (378nm race) on Saturday. I’m looking forward to using it. Now back to Lee cloth install.
