Re: Tracing wiring from alternator to battery

On my 2007, the wire runs from the forward port side on the engine bay, under the cabin sole to the port side of the battery box. It’s a tight run, but if you unscrew and lift the teak holly ply on the sole, there is an access the wires half way through.

Re: Replacement marine stereo radio/speakers

Before you ditch the speaker, make sure that it is the problem. This summer, one of my speakers quit working. When I took it apart, I found that one of the speaker wires had a bad connection. Unlike most of the electrical wiring on our boats that is tinned, the speakers just have common speaker wire...

Re: Mainsail Battens

I bought these battens several years ago; BBE 15265-210F Battens (2100mm RBS Leech battens). On my main, they are each the same length. Our main, I think, is the original.

Re: C350 design changes over the years? Pick best yr for us?

I can’t add much, but we own a 2007 and also looked at a 2008. On our 2007, the seats on the transom have opening hatches which provide access to tons of storage under the transom. On the 2008, there is no hatches. You can still get to the transom space via the aft cockpit lockers, but it isn’t easy...

Re: Dedicated start battery

I recently rewired the two switches that control the flow from the batteries to the aux and house panel. Our boat came with 2 4D house batteries wired as a single 12 v bank, and a start battery. The house was wired to position one and the start battery to position two of the 1-2-both switch on the l...

Re: Replacement engin panel

Interesting comment about the condensation. My boat has the opposite condition. When not motoring, the lenses are clear, but after motoring they fog up. Evidently, the heat from the bulb creates condensation on the inside of the lense. After chasing several theories, I removed one of the bulbs and t...

Re: Micron Rating for Water Separator

I stumbled upon a solution when looking at the possibility of using a short pigtail of compressor hose and found a rotating fitting. Installed, it only pushes the cover up a quarter of an inch.

Racor fuel vacuum gauge location

This thread goes back a while and ended with comments about installing the Racor vacuum gauge. For those who have installed the gauge, where did you find the headroom to install the Racor filter and gauge since the gauge adds almost 3” to the top of the filter housing? In my boat, the Racor is insta...

Re: M35B fuel consumption

I assume fuel consumption is also effected by the prop used. With the Flexofold, I find we get between 2/3 to 1/2 gal per hour, depending on conditions. A neighbor with the stock fixed 2 blade gets far less and can hardly go 5 knots at 2400.

Re: Flushing Heat Exchanger

Just reinstalled my heat exchanger after removing it to soak in vinegar and check the zinc clearance. Remounting the exchanger was a bit of a challenge due to the lack of sight lines, the spring like nature of the bracket and the transmission fins blocking a straight line to the bolt. Found that acc...

Re: Heat Exchanger Zinc Broken

I have followed these discussions about shortening the zinc for quite some time with no opinion or knowledge. This fall, the zinc broke off inside the heat exchanger, so I drained the antifreeze, and pulled the heat exchanger to clear the zinc and clean heat exchanger. This may not apply to everyone...

Re: Bonding

In addition to protection from lightning, bonding can also reduce the difference in electrical potential between underwater fittings that can cause galvanic corrosion. Fortunately, it is a lot easier to bond all the underwater fittings than all the metal above water.

Bonding

None of the metal fittings on the 350 are bonded to ground, as I understand. Has anyone gone to the expense and time to install a bonding system to reduce galvanic activity?

Re: Mast bend or no bend?

That is a large cross section to bend, but I suppose it can be done. I suggest you get the tuning guide mentioned at the end of the video. It is excellent for any sailor. In it, there is a section describing how to tune a rig without a gauge based on the size, breaking strength and stretch of the ri...

You might check your thermostat. Remove it, soak it in vinegar to clean it and test it in a pan of hot water to see if and at what temp it opens.

M35B fuel consumption

S/V Reverie, Hull#447, is in route from VT to our new home in VA. Much of the northern section is unsailable, so we have motored far more than we ever have. The benefit is that it gave us the opportunity to validate our fuel consumption. At 2100 rpm, we are getting about 2/3 gallons per hour which s...

Re: Cradle for laying mast on top of boat

This thread is a little old, so wondering whether anyone has additional suggestions. We are heading down Lake Champlain and through the Champlain Locks to the Hudson River this fall on our way to Virginia. The mast will need to come down and lay in a cradle above the deck to get under the 18' bridge...

Our starboard stern pulpit got caught in the bow pulpit of another boat late this season and bent at the base of the forward post and along the top rail. Sorry about this post cluttering up the list. I finally figured out that BB3 doesn't like percentage signs and the post worked fine when I converted it to text. Go figure!
