Picture of alternate clutch location
I've had a number of people e-mail to ask for a picture of the Spinlock clutch mounted on the horizontal area next to the traveller cam cleat. This has worked out extremely well for me. I'm going to attempt to include the picture below. You'll notice that I left the original cleat in place. I've use...

Re: Helm Wheel Continually loosens
Hans- My boat came with a special wrench (it was in the nylon bag containing the emergency tiller). I have no idea what it is called, but it has pins that fit into two holes in the nut that holds the wheel on. The span between the pins can be increased to fit the cover plate over the rudder post. On...

Re: New 350 owner with lots of questions
Triumph- I do remember a link to a personal website that provided pictures of the ducting switch, but I'm not sure I know how to find it again. That is how I got the idea. Was that your site? In the end though, it's that long trip from Carlisle to the Bay that is killing me, along with my inability ...

Re: Helm Wheel Continually loosens
I think the original problem with my wheel was that the taper of the shaft and the taper of the wheel hub did not match as perfectly as they should have, allowing the wheel to "rock" on the shaft just slightly, especially when holding onto it in rough conditions. This would tend to back th...

Re: New 350 owner with lots of questions
Thanks, Wally. I've had Even Keel II for a season and a half now, and have made many improvements and upgrades including a cranking battery, washdown pump, 35# Manson Supreme anchor with 75 ft of chain + 175 ft of rope, extra insulation on the inside of the fridge, TV & iPod inputs to the stereo...

Re: Helm Wheel Continually loosens
I had the same problem, but teflon tape worked well for me. You might try Loctite, but be sure you know where your wrench is in case you need it in a hurry!

Re: Have you checked your water pump impeller recently?
Ken- That really doesn't surprise me at all. I've had impellers go out in about that many hours. It was no fun fishing blades out of the heat exchanger. I check mine every year during winterization, and if it looks worn, feels stiff, or if the smallest crack appears at the base of any blade, a new o...

Short video of C350
Last Friday, after I finished the contortions required to install a washdown pump, I went for a quick solo sail across the Chesapeake Bay. It was one of those perfect weekdays with no Cigarette boats out and southerly winds of 18-22 kts, allowing a beam reach in both directions. On the return run, a...

Re: LED Replacements for Bulbs- DIM!
Greg: I should have taken your advice and only purchased one of these 21 LED G4's to try it out. I just received 7 of them and installed a few in the overhead dome lights. To me they didn't seem close in output to the 10W halogens that came in the fixtures, so I checked them with a laboratory light ...

Re: Rope Clutch for Jib Furler line
I finally mounted my Spinlock clutch today. It was nice that it fit the holes for the existing cleat, but the mesh bags for stowing the halyards etc interfered with handling the furling line, and it seems difficult to haul on the line without popping the clutch open accidentally-- which could be nas...

Re: Refrigeration
My-Oh-My, a post about a refrigerator being too cold is a first for this group! It looks like Catalina really did make some changes. Unless something is wired wrong, it sounds like the thermostat itself is the culprit. The freezer compartment thermostat on my Mk I is the same way--- Setting 1 has th...

Re: Wind generator
My cranking battery is under the port settee, just on the other side of the divider from the main batteries. The isolator is mounted on the divider. This made it easy to run the cables up to the "Engine" rotary switch under the chart table. I don't have a third water tank under the port se...

Re: Wind generator
There are some DC powered units out there, such as the "DC Breeze", but they would draw a minimum of 48 amps when running. There's probably no way you could run such a unit on any combination of wind and/or solar. With the refrig drawing 2.5-5 amps, I'd still be surprised if a typical wind...

Re: LED anchor light
This bulb looks like it might work:

However, I'm not keen to try it myself since I would have to pay someone to climb the mast. Would be an expensive test if I find out it's not suitable.

Re: Rope Clutch for Jib Furler line
Jon & Richard- I just ordered the Spinlock. My furling line cleat is on the angled part of the platform that holds the rest of the clutches, so that it sets at a 45 degree angle. Did you mount the Spinlock in that location? I'm wondering if it wouldn't fit on the edge of the horizontal area with...

Re: Prop nut zincs revisited
Thanks, Tim. I ended up with the Canada Metals from Defender (#204304) which fit fine, though I'm a bit worried that the zinc part is held by one hex key bolt. We'll see if it spins itself off next time I dive to scrape the barnacles.

Ralph-
How did you get to the bulbs in those dome lights? I took one down and tried to open it and could not figure it out.

Re: Interior lights replacement source
Does anyone know how to get this type of light fixture open to replace the bulb? I took one off and tried to open it, but for the life of me I couldn't figure it out.
Also, has anyone tried to replace the incandescent bulb with an LED type?

Prop nut zincs revisited
Once again, I'm 2 1/2 hrs away from Even Keel II and need a measurement. After reading all of the posts about prop-nut and shaft zincs, it's still not clear to me. I currently have a prop-nut zinc and no room for a shaft zinc. I've seen recommendation for a Camp P-3 and P-5, and the association main...
