Re: rattling/grinding noise in gear at higher RPMs
On my 2004 C-350 I have had a lot of vibration as I increased throttle; really vibrated the boat. For a long time I dealt with this by easing off slightly after accelerating which calmed things down. Many repeated checks; shaft alignment, engine mounts, prop, bushings, rudder- on and on, finding not...

Re: Under Helm and Rudder Maintenance
I removed the ceiling panel in the aft cabin to check the Edson steering; found a broken wire in one of the steering cables. Looks like one heck of a job to replace the cable. If anyone has experience with this; thoughts, advise welcome. John

Re: Mainsheet Cam Cleat Replaced By Rope Clutch
Replacing a cam with clutch cleat..... ? Possible issue would be if, make that WHEN, the main needs to be released quickly. The clutch would not allow this, a jammer / clam cleat does. The safety factor, allowing the main sheet to be totally unloaded quickly (when "sh.t happens"), being ab...

Re: De-lamination of veneer on forward bulkhead wall in salon.
Steve: As to the bulkhead veneer: it has now been - well a long time and it all remains in place, no voids or loose sections. I'd say the heating worked well. I moved slowly, heated perhaps 18" at a time with a clothes iron, dish cloth under the iron, then pressed down on it as the section cool...

Re: De-lamination of veneer on forward bulkhead wall in salon.
Regarding veneered paneling: I did have to iron it twice to get the glue re-heated enough (towel placed under the iron). Held good ever since.

Re: Icom helm mic
I read a few posts regarding the issue of remote mic failing on Standard Horizion original equipment (CMP23 ? mic). Seems a full VHF replacement is called for...??? So- wiring route seems an expected pain, doable but difficult. How about the antenna: are connections standard with older vs new radios...

Re: Drilling into/mouting to pedestal
Regarding winch handle holder: I have a sleeve mounted on the forward post for the cockpit table. Easy to reach, out of the way.
As to hardware mounted the the pedestal: washer backing with a nut gets my support.

Re: Charles 3000 Charger -- Dual Battery Charging
Ken: On my 350 when I have the battery switch on No. 1 the charger seems to only be charging bank No. 1, on #2, only bank #2. On "Both" it charges both banks. Perhaps wired incorrectly ? Anyway, if this is how my charger works, seems best to have matching batteries when switch is set to &q...

Re: Charles 3000 Charger -- Dual Battery Charging
I believe the Charles charger is not a "smart" charger. I sees your batteries and one type, capacity. It will not charge two different battery types at an equal rate. Seems you could use it to charge your existing batteries- but only one at a time. If you want to leave the switch on "...

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Bill: I can confirm that after running the engine for a couple hours this past weekend the overflow line works as intended. Please note: THE HOLE WAS ON THE OUTSIDE, ABOVE THE 90 degree OVERFLOW FITTING and was leaking coolant every time I shut down a fully warm engine. I expect this was working as ...

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Bill: I certainly would not go poking any holes ! As to coolant levels rising and falling- can’t say I have looked, but I will this weekend and report back to you. I do know the line to it always has, when cold, an air bubble in it. Does this mean nothing is going through- perhaps but not sure. My e...

Re: Exhaust Manifold
I had an issue with coolant leak for some time. Finally found the problem was a small hole just above the expansion fitting on the manifold (exactly as seen in the photo). JB weld fixed the problem. To my thinking the system does not need a "bleed hole", which would defeat the entire purpo...

Re: De-lamination of engine cover assembly behind stairs
In the cabin we had some delamination on the bulkhead panneling. The glue used is apparently heat activated. We sucessufully reattahed the lamination by applying heat from a clothes iron set on steam with cloth between the iron and wall surface. Perhaps try this on the engine cover.

Update to antifreeze in my engine oil: Thinking I had a head issue (crack or gasket or..) I was ready to take the head off. This after trying a radiator pressure testing device on the coolant system. Pressure held so. #@#!! ???. Leaving the boat one night I had an "flash of an idea"- somew...

boom to mast connection
The boom / mast connection has a horizontal pin. I was "just checking" the other day and found the pin was about to fall out ! The keeper ring had sheered allowing the pin to work it's way out. This was a disaster in the making for sure, something I'm very glad I saw. have you looked at yo...

Re: fuel leak, engine bilge
Coolant leak update No 2: Finally found source: A small almost pin-hole leak at the neck of the radiator cap assembly on the header, right above the overflow line connection. Found it by putting a light in the fill neck, sealing off the light so the only emission would be through a hole- and voila; ...

Re: New Genoa Sail - Add Foam Luff?
Regarding new genoa: I have purchased from Precision sails and have not always been happy. I had to send back a mainsail- and they tried three times to get it right, never did. I previously had bought a genoa from them which had the foam inserts and this sail did seem OK. But I have advised others t...

Re: fuel leak, engine bilge
Leigh: Thanks for your response. Tackled a schedule job this weekend; flushed/replaced the coolant. After filling I noticed I did have a bubble about every 8 seconds, one "burp". Don't know if this is air from coolant replacement procedure or....I did need to bleed air at water heater and ...
