Re: Mast bend or no bend?

I have a 2003 with conventional main. The spar maker is Charleston. I saw the Selden video several years ago and tried to get a bend into my mast with no success. I tightened the forward lowers and loosened the aft lowers. tightened the backstay. Could not get any bend. A year or so later there was ...

Re: Reefing

you can google single line reefing and get a number of drawings of similar systems that follow the same basic layout. Your most difficult problem will be to get the line back in the boom. Hopefully the people who removed it left a pilot line. If not you may be able to tape a cord to the boom lift li...

Re: Prop replacement

We had bad cavitation in choppy water with the original prop. After reading posts at this site we bought a folding prop. The theory is that the original prop and shaft put the blades extremely close to the shaft log creating a lack of water flow on the blades as they passed behind the shaft log resu...

Re: what to do when engine is off?

We have a Flexofold too. We always put it in reverse. If you leave it in neutral the prop doesn't fold and the propshaft spins

Re: Rocna Anchror Question /Chain size

We went with the 20 kg. That's 44 lbs. It fits OK on the longer roller. I almost got the 15 kg (33lbs) but our boats are very big for their length and I decided to err on the side of caution. The one downside with the Rocna is that if you are in a weedy anchorage with a lot of wind the anchor can wi...

Re: spinnaker halyard

The book calls for 130ft 1/2" line. I just replaced mine and followed that spec. If I were to do it again I'd go with 7/16 line. It has plenty of strength and would be much easier to fit in the storage bags. My rigger said that 3/8" would be plenty of strength. That's what was on the boat ...

Console buzzer wiring

I am trying to understand the wiring to the console warning buzzer and how it might relate to a faint glow we are getting in the oil pressure warning light,(opwl). Looking at the electrical schematic in the engine manual (drawing #200360 rev C), it shows that the warning buzzer gets positive 12v pow...

Re: Ideal (or better) reefing line routing?

I don't have a solution for the reefing line but I strongly agree on the lazy jacks. The dutchman system never worked. We got a Doyle stack pack which includes lazy jacks. cost was $1300. They stitched it on to our existing sail. Not as easy as in mast furling but way easier than the original system...

Re: Installing a rope clutch

We did the same thing on our boat several years ago. It works much more reliably. There is an aluminum plate imbeded in the fiberglass below the line clutches. You'll need to drill holes to accomodate the new line clutch and tap threads into the aluminum plate. I did not have any taps so I hired a r...

Re: macerator for wilcox crittenden head

Does anyone know where we can get a new impeller for the Wilcox Crittenden Newport 1600? I've called raritan and they told me they did not have them. Westmarine and Defender zilch as well.

Re: Bilge Pump Runs

We had the same problem on hull 123. It was a stuck check valve about 6 inches above the pump. I cleaned but didn't trust it so I went to westmarine to get a new one. The westmarine guy had one but recommended that I not buy it. In his view they will always leak and are prone to getting stuck. If th...

Re: how much bottom paint?

Dave, I had mine painted with Micron 66. They used 3 gal to do 2 and a half coats. J+R did the job. They are in Placida and did the work at Charlotte Harbor Boat storage. They charged $800 to prep and paint (paint not included). They also did the cutlass. Had to drop the rudder. Their charge for tha...

Ralph, What is the check valve for? Mine was leaking so I removed it and just put the hose on without it. It seems fine that way . I couldn't figure out what benefit the check valve had.

Re: Flexofold Prop

I recently asked Flex fold for a recommendation based on a M35B with the 1.88 reduction. They said to go with a 3 blade 15x9. In looking at posts from others it looks like they have previously recommended 15x10. Does anyone have experience with a Flex Fold 15x9 on a C350? Do those who have the 15x10...

Leigh and Yodagwb Thanks for all the detailed postings on the cavitation probs and folding/feathering props . It sounds like you have both found solutions you are pleased with and I'm trying to decide which one to do. Couple of questions: on the Flexofold - you extended the shaft 1" do you thin...

Re: Newport Mod 1600 Base attachment.

if you are having trouble getting parts for the Newport and are going to stick with it you might want to contact Ken in parts at Catalina in Florida. I checked in June. They didn't have a stock of the old parts but did have a number of complete Newport heads that they were heavily discounting. Lookin...
