Re: Rocna Anchror Question /Chain size

Suggest you remove the gypsy on the windlass and take it with you to buy the chain.

Re: Carbon Monoxide detectors

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I'm using Safe-T-Alert. It is sold as a propane detector, but it alarms on CO2, butane, and methane.

Re: Carbon Monoxide detectors

I installed one under the sink near the fresh water pump. Ran the wires along the same route as the pump's. Installed the control/switch panel at the Nav station. Had to drill a small hole in the wood panel next to the switch panel to run the wires from the control panel. Was concerned that locating...

Re: Holding Tank Clog

This happened to me once. If found a clog at the outlet - plugged with marine growth. To fix it, I pushed a coated wire (a la coat hanger) into the hole and bingo - out came the contents. I'd do this some where secluded, though, as there is sure to be some effluent once you clear the clog.

Cockpit washboard

Not sure what to call it, but I lost the small plastic board that goes in the aft portion of the cockpit at the stern ladder. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement or have the dimensions?

Re: Leaking hatch over V birth

First thing to check are the screws that attach the hatch to the hinge mechanism. If those are loose, then water can work through the gasket there. It possible that it is time to remove the hatch entirely and re-bed/re-caulk, but I'd make sure the leak is not coming from something simple first. BTW,...

Re: Head sink drain

I think the sink in the head occasionally backs up / drains slowly because of the run of the drain hose. At the bottom of the sink, the drain hose turns almost horizontal and then makes a 90 degree turn to vertical over the thru-hull. This arrangement together with a small diameter hose allows for a...

This is a pretty old thread, but I'd like to repeat the question. Anyone install Dorades or any other ventilation upgrades?

Sailing from Annapolis to Houston

I am in the process of taking my boat from Annapolis to Houston, TX. Currently, am just north of Charleston, SC. Going to use the ICW (both Atlantic and Gulf) most of the way. I am always open to suggestions - local knowledge, ICW tips, liveaboard tips, etc. Will be solo much of the trip, so if anyo...

Re: Self-Priming my . . .

Here is how I do it: 1. Remove the spin-on fuel filter, being careful to capture the fuel that leaks out. I use a ziplock bag and rags/absorption pads. 2. Spin on a new filter. 3. Crank the engine. It may take a couple of tries, and I don't crank for more than 15 secs at a time, but it works, every ...

I replaced my outhaul a couple of years ago - 46' of 3/8" yacht braid. Have not replaced the mainsail "inhaul" nor the jib furling line. Anyone know these lengths?

Re: Water in the bilge after rain

Sorry - no pictures...but: I'm in the process of finding and fixing leaks as well. One leak that I fixed was the inspection port at the most forward part of the anchor locker. This port allows access to the underside of the anchor chocks as well as the wiring for the running lights. This port is hel...

Re: Fried Shore Power Receptacle

Same thing happenend to me a couple of years ago. traced the issue to a dissconnected grounding wire in the shore power plug on the stern of the boat. A disconnected ground wire should NOT cause an overheating situation on a shore power cord or outlet. The ground wire should be carrying zero amps u...

RotaryAire Inop

Tried to energize the RotaryAire A/C - heat this weekend. When I throw the switch at the AC panel, all the lights on the RotaryAire control panel come on, the display shows "A4" and then the control panel shuts off completely. I don't think the issue is with the internal breakers. Anyone h...

Brilliant. I'm putting this on my to-do list along with the overall fridge insulation improvements you posted earlier. My freezer works great, but the fridge barely keeps things cool.

Thanks for sharing all this.
