Re: Damper Replacement

Can any of the folks that replaced the damper confirm that the ZF (Hurth) transmission on the 350 is the model ZF15MA with the 8 deg deviation and not not the ZF15M? According to the nameplate it is the former. After 6 transmission failures it's coming out for good . The damper plate is in very good...

Re: Engine does not start

if there is no sound when the key is turned or the key does not stay in place when turned then it might be a case of the black plastic ignition backing off on it's thread. It can be fully unloosened and then tightened up quite easily. If there is sound - buzzer -when key turns but nothing happens wh...

Re: Galley sink loses water pressure on 2 of 3 tanks

I close the valve on the empty forward tank as the flow starts to weaken, turn off the faucet, turn on the next tank valve, turn faucet back on. A few burps and then full flow.
Should not be any difference in hot versus cold for the various tanks.

Re: Raymarine SL70RC Plus Radar/Chartplotter display

Phil, I posted an update on Jan 3 ander Raymarine Troubleshooting Charge(next topic down). I tested the unit on my boat and it worked a treat. It actually allows slightly better zoom in than originally. Just need to get some dielectric gel and white sealant to install. I think its job #7 of 37 . Too...

Re: Raymarine Troubleshooting Charge

Just an update to show that sometimes Christmas wishes do come true and a big thank you to Raymarine, Nashua, NH. I did send my SL70CRC to them in late November. Just before Christmas they called to say they had it on the bench and although main CPU board had been locked up and parts no longer avail...

Re: 135 genoa versus 155 genoa

Dave, you will enjoy it very much in the light winds. You need a couple of padeyes mounted about as far back as you can on the deck plus a shackle for the bow. I put mine on the anchor roller and take it off when the sail is not being used. I think I've seen some special bow fittings mentioned on th...

Re: Heat exchanger

in replacing the HE after cleaning and pressure test I dropped(and lost) one of the capscrews (part 018813) that hold the brackets in place.............. due to combination of spring tension in the bracket and location. I did find an identical replacement but its an M10x25 not M10x20 as shown in the...

Re: Raymarine Troubleshooting Charge

After speaking with Raymarine in NH direct and having them confirm that parts and service were available for my SL70CRC I sent the unit to the local distributor which is an authorized repair center. Raymarine suggested I do this . After about 3 weeks they (distributor) finally came back and advised ...

Re: Winterizing

Brett, Managed to pull the HE yesterday and it's now in for pickling and pressure testing. A couple of obeservations for anyone who is contemplating doing this. I loosened off the jubilee clips on Monday. Although the hoses were initially compressed and really tight they relaxed after a day and were...

Re: Potential 350 Owner

Paul, Like Ralph I do a fair bit of single handed day sailing (2-3 hours) and the in mast main is a tremendous asset. The only time it jammed was when I was too strong on the inhaul and pulled the plastic cleat at the clew into the mast slot. It took a few minutes to get out but my own fault. Normal...

Re: Winterizing

Brett, Zinc end of HE was free of debris and sediment but I think I'll get it boiled in the next couple of weeks. Not a big job to get it out and nice start for the spring. I did flush the coolant manifold using water and your instructions and all seemed to go well. Do you see any difference in oper...

Re: Winterizing

Thanks Brett it looks like Dex cool sludge and I'll maybe try some Rydlime to clean it out. The first drain looked ok and I'll flush tomorrow. I want to check the zinc end of HE first. The coolant was from 2012. Not many hours on it. I have attached a link to an article on Universal HE's which I fou...

Good point Ken. Aside from Feb I should be on the boat once a week and able to check battery level and SG.

Re: Winterizing

I may have missed this but can someone recommend a flushing procedure for the engine coolant. In getting the engine ready for winter it looked like there was some crud when I removed the manifold pressure cap and I'd like to get rid of it now rather than later. The coolant recover tank level is stil...

Re: Battery storage during winter

Our boat will remain in the water for the winter with cabin heated, shore power and battery charger on. Outside temp could get down to about 32F. Engine will be winterized and not available to run. In reading the thread and provided I check battery level and SG periodically I think we should be good...

Re: cavitation

We tried the 14x8 prop over the summer and as you predicted (and I half expected) the speed was off getting only around 4 knots at 2400rpm and having to run around 2700 rpm to get 5.5 knots or so. The other concern was that engine would go far to easily to WOT. In discussing with Ron Campbell (Campb...
