Oberdorfer N202M-908 Raw Water Pump Installation

For those that installed the Oberdorfer N202M-908 as a replacement for the Sherwood Raw Water Pump, I have a couple of questions: Did you also order the Oberdorfer 12456 Mounting Kit? - or - Did you try to reuse some of the mounting parts from the Sherwood? (such as the angle brackets and the elbow ...

Re: Replacing tachometer

Went to the boat today with my multimeter. (hint: I think I should keep one of these on the boat!) The multimeter proved to be a much better troubleshooting tool than just pulling/wiggling wires. Bad connection found on the SEND wire. Tach works fine now. Except... In my initial troubleshooting, I m...

Re: Replacing tachometer

The symptoms were/are: - prior to turning ignition on, tach would point to random places on the scale, not consistent - with ignition on, engine NOT running, tach points to 0 - with ignition on, engine running, tach points to 0, regardless of engine speed I've removed the instrument panel to have ac...

Replacing tachometer

Hello. It appears that my tach has stopped working. I've checked the connections at the back of the tach and they seem ok. So... I may be ordering a new tach soon. My question: When replacing the tach, what do you do about the engine hours on the old tach? Is there a way to set the engine hours on t...

Raritan Marine Elegance

Has anyone installed a Raritan Marine Elegance head in the Catalina 350? I have the original Wilcox-Crittenden Newport 1600. It failed on the last sail of the season this year. Would not bring water into the bowl. It would evacuate water/solids. I've repaired this head in the past and am not sure I ...

Re: Oil Pressure Switch removal and replacement

Update: The new oil pressure switch is installed! I bought the Oil Pressure Switch Socket ($12.49) at Pep Boys during lunch time today. The socket is for 1" to 1 1/16" switches. Then went down to the boat after work to give it another try. In the meantime, I contacted a marine mechanic a c...

Re: Oil Pressure Switch removal and replacement

Thanks Ralph for the Bulletin.

Leigh:
How dd you get the tool to fit over the oil pressure switch? There is another fitting close to the oil pressure switch that prohibited me from getting the 1 and 1/16th inch deep socket over the switch. Is the special tool similar to a deep socket?

Oil Pressure Switch removal and replacement

One of the two electrical tabs broke off of my oil pressure switch. This causes the alarm to continually chirp/buzz. I can't seem to remove the oil pressure switch. I've tried a 1 and 1/16th inch deep socket, but there is a nearby fitting that prevents the socket from getting over the switch. I've t...

I've noticed something recently about postings to the Scuttlebutt section. It seems there are postings that would be more appropriate for other sections of the website. Some examples: Message Title: refrigeration Wouldn't this message be more appropriate in the "Refrigeration" section of t...

In Barbara's original post, she said she found the Trojan batteries for $62 each. Does anyone know where to get these batteries at that price? Also, has anyone tried using the Trojan T145 batteries? They're almost an inch taller.

Hello,

The waste holding tank is mounted higher than the toilet. On your new manual toilet, is the flush of sufficient force to push the waste "uphill" to the holding tank?

Hello Ken,

I had this same problem with my shower sump pump. The problem turned out to be hair and debris wrapped around the shaft and blade.

To correct, I removed the red top and cleaned the shaft and blade. Be sure the sides snap back in when you put the red top back on.

anti-siphon kit install on Chesapeake Bay

Jack R,

My anti-siphon kit was installed by Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace. That is at the very northern tip of the Chesapeake Bay. I'm sure any competent boat mechanic could do the work.

George, I've had my Max Prop for a couple of seasons. I have the 15 inch 3 blade Max Prop. I've tried it at two different pitches. From memory (all bets are off!) I will try to tell my experiences. 18 degrees pitch: 2400 rpm gives about 6.0 - 6.3 knots speed (medium seas) 2700 rpm gives about 6.5 kn...

Dave, We are considering an asymetrical spinnaker for the upcoming season. Thanks for the tip re. using a chute sock. I have some questions: 1. Can you provide some performance numbers for light winds? 2. Where and how did you attach the tack of the sail? 3. Where did you mount the blocks for the sh...
